Sounds like he is doing well so far.

The pic looks OK to me too, the incision looks good.  ANY time you are concerned have a chat with your vet.   My Pug Maggie had dark skin so her bruising wasn't noticeable. 

Another idea to help him around is the shopping bag sling, instructions here.  But if what you are doing is working for you keep it up!

And yay for your 12 year old!

Our dog has his left leg amputated a little over two weeks ago. Our bruising looked similar, and shifted around the first three days then started to disappear. It was totally gone by one week. As long as my dogs wasn’t swelling or hot and irritated looking I felt like it was ok. Hope your boy gets better everyday!
