Hurley is having a hard time adjusting to only being able to sleep on one side.

Once he gets on the "correct" side he rests pretty well, but he does like to try and shift to his surgery side, but ends up straight on and not very comfortable.

Should I just let him figure it out or try and help him position?

Awww Hurley. We're sorry. This sounds like it's part of the normal recovery process where dogs are getting used to their new bodies. Eventually we learn to sleep on our amp side but sometimes it takes a while.

My pawrents let me figure it out on my own, which I did not too long after surgery, maybe a couple of weeks. I know it's hard to see your best friend being uncomfortable! Maybe someone else has experience in this area that we don't, I'd love to hear suggestions.

Buddy is 16 days post-amp and having the same problem.  Prior to surgery he'd sleep on one side or the other, then end up on his back with all paws in the air.  Since the surgery he's either on his tummy and very uncomfortable, or on his "good" side.  But, I really thing the "good" side needs a rest.

I'd love to hear your suggestions.

What type of beds do your dogs have? Most recovering pups prefer a cool smooth surface. Lumpy "Costco" style beds can become uncomfortable during recuperation. Consider an orthopedic dog bed, and give them time to adapt.

Maddie was disgusted with having to sleep on the same side for so long, but it's one of those things that as a pawrent you wish you could fix it for them and make it all better, but we can't. They have to figure out their new body's on their own.

Maddie mostly laid on her orthopedic dog bed . But after the 1st week she really liked the feeling of the big plush (Costco) dog bed that kind of hugs in around her. All though I hear some dog's have problems with balancing and tripping on that kind.

Your babies will get it figured out. It just sometimes takes a while.

Hope they and you get good restful sleep tonight.

Thanks for the messages.

We have him on a memory foam bed and I can confirm that it is comfortable as I slept on it most of the early morning with him today.

🙂

We'll just do what we can and try and keep him as comfy as possible.
