After a very rough night we arrived with Fuzz to the hospital at 0715 for his admission.  He was given further radiographs prior to surgery to ensure he was still good candidate.  Dr. Padgett phoned me ( we hung around the area for couple hours) at around 9 and said radiographs still show no spread of tumor and it has significantly grown which is most likely his downturn previous night and he is feeling good as surgery is best option.  Surgery proceeded around 1030 and I received phone call from Dr. Padgett around 1300 and he reported surgery went very well and Fuzz was doing very good in recovery.  He is in ICU and getting good care and comfort.  Dr. reported he was pleased with surgery and stated that the very large tumor was in the best possible placement for its size (scapula) and it was fully encapsulated in muscle tissue which he says is a good thing as muscle is natural defense in body for tumors.  Lab will determine if disease has spread micropscopically and then we can look at options but for now this will give him relief and definitely a turn for better in his situation.  I was relieved to hear and asked Dr. if fromdoing similar surgeries when he got in to see what going on was he satisfied with everything and he said assuredly yes.  Hospital is to call me few more times periodic through day and evening with check ins on Fuzz recovery and I am scheduled to pick him up and bring him home tomorrow late morning. I have been cleaning and prepping the laundry room where I will have him for awhile.. trying to get creative on keeping him from getting out/over baby gate .. may have to have higher sheet of plywood over open door frame. Now his recovery at home is soon to begin and I am still very much nervous over this- ensuring he is comfortable, getting him to eat/drink and take medications as needed and keeping him from hurting himself.. along with hope that he will not be depressed and never return to the happy and friendly cat that he was for so many years...

Yeeeeehaw! That is WONDERFUL! smiley_clap So happy to hear the surgery is over, and that Dr. P had such great things to say about how it went. It really doesn't get any better than this.

Stay strong and remember that you set the tone for recovery. The more calm, centered and hopeful you are, the better he will respond to the temporary change in his environment. I have a good feeling that you will be so amazed when you see how getting that awful tumor off his body makes such a difference in his personality. You'll have your old kitty back in no time at all.

Second follow up call from Dr. in ICU and she reported that he is such a sweet chill cat and was just hanging out in his cage recovering around 5 pm. She did report this very bit of good news- he ate dinner!  Dr. reported that most cats won't eat in the hospital and Fuzz ate all the dinner they provided to him!   My hope is that he will continue with his appetite and eat for me upon coming home with the huge variety of flavors, textures and types of foood I have ready for him.. drinking too..hearing that bit of news made me feel good.  They will call me after rounds tomorrow with final report and as long as everything proceeding as it is now he will be discharged and come home at 11.  I have his room all set up.. cleaned my laundry room (cleanest its been in forever lol) and have boxes, caves, rugs blankets all washed and ready to go.  have a self warming pad in a cave for him and will leave his new carrier with new bed down when we come home too.  I blocked off all areas he could try to get into or jump up on and have a barrier to prevent him leaving the area.  Will lay down his pee pads on floor and get low rise litterbox set up when we arrive home. He has a couple new cuddle toys with catnip ready to go also!  I can't wait to kiss his sweet face!
