Hi All

Thanks so much to all of you who have shown concern, support and asked us to keep you updated.

A Special "thank God for you" to Cynthia who shared her knowldege of MRSA and meds with us!

Today is Bud's second month milestone as a tripawd and it was also his vet check. As many of you know, he had a nasty skin infection. The official diagnosis was "bacterial pyoderma", I believe. Because of the history of MRSA , the vet was treating with proven MRSA sensitive drugs. He had 2 antibiotics and a topical spray.Well, things didnt go well. The infection continued to spread. Bud has hair loss from where his last rib touches to where his hip should be. There was blackening and browning of the skin. Scabs and pus. He never did act sick, run a fever or have other symptoms. The vet thought we might have to hospitalize Bud so he could be treated with IV antibiotics.

We apparently have a better combination of things, I am happy to report there is no more spreading! The scabs are gone. There is just some redness. The vet said that even though the infection did not look or act like MRSA ….  he was still "suspicious" of the MRSA . We have agreed on a aggressive and longer term treatment. Bud will continue meds and will follow up at the vet every two weeks.

I have come to the conclusion that this MRSA is something that will always be a concern in Bud's recovery and treatment. It is not just the three week ordeal that the place he acquired it from, said that it would be. I often am reminded of the many of you with cancer pups, fighting bravely, finding comfort and joy in spending each day and hoping in tomorrow! Even though we have different diagnosis, I take heart in that! I also am so grateful for the monkey dog/tripawd banter that made me laugh on days I was not laughing!

So celebrate with us! Bud is still on his diet….from 103 to 82 and working toward 75lbs and that new knee brace. He has to have apples but for those of you that can….have something meaty, greasy or stinky for my Bud dog "K"

Happy ampuversary Bud!   And I am really glad you have that infection under control.

The pugs will have their 'after meds' treats in your honor tonight!

This also translates to "Be More Dog "!! A lesson we should all take to heart.

And good job on the diet!

Way to go with the diet!  Apples were one of Trouble's favorites, as were pear, strawberry and banana! Sounds like Bud is on the high road now.  That's certainly worth celebrating.

Good luck with the chemo.  Hope he has minimal side effects and a speedy recovery.

Hoppy Ampuversary Bud!! And glad to hear the infection has stopped spreading. Mom gave us each a baby carrot as a treat for your special day. I spit it across the room like a cruise missile and Monkeybutt Samson ate both. (Don't tell monkeybutt but mom snuck me a piece of chicken jerky-something that Samson cant have- hahaha)

Daisy earned her wings on Oct 22, 2011 at 14 years old

Daisy, Daisy!  You made me smile.  Trouble liked carrots, but the things she didn't like got spit across the room like a cruise missile.  it was the funniest thing to watch! I always called it projectile spitting.

Thanks for the smile, you're a gem!

Bud, I'm so happy to hear that you're doing better big-grin.  It's sounds like you're on your way to happy days and months ahead! I've never had apples, but I like carrots and green beans (but not as much as I like greasy, meaty, smelly stuff)

Ranger

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

I don't have a clue what MRSA is, but it must be bad!

Happy to hear you are doing so much better Bud!

Maddie doesn't turn down any food! At least not anything I have found yet. She has some that aren't her favorites, but she eats it all.

Way to go Bud, Maddie and I are cheering for you.
