I am a strong believer that with other animals about it spurs them on to heel well as they want to get back to their normal (new normal adjustments) playful selves to not miss out on all that animal fun!
I think that if we still had our other fur baby, Sandy would be more active - thankfully we have some good friends whose dogs drop in to say hi to her - she certainly eats her food then without any mummy feeding encouragement!!!
Animals understand so much more than we give them credit for so it's great to hear they are being considerate with the rough play they love.
You seem to be doing really well together...keep capturing those positive moments together!
