As the vet gave me the go for the $5000 amputation now I have to find financial support. It seems like it will be a journey. So far I've applied to Angel for animals (their form) and the Brown dog. I have been refused by the last one. Care credit doesn't work in Canada. I will go through that list and hopefully find help. I must help my dog.

Canine Cancer Awareness is no longer taking applications

Dog and Cat cancer fund: application sent

Magic Bullet: I need to know about Canada.

Lots of links that are dead.

Good Lord, that is seriously expensive.  Have you checked prices at other facilities?!  We are in Pennsylvania and only paid somewhere in the range of $2,000.00 which included the Amputation w/another biopsy of entire leg, one night hosp. stay and pain meds.  Are things that much more expensive in Canada?

Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11.  A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Do you have a vet school nearby? My Faith is going to have her leg amputated for $650.00

A vet wanted over $3,000; a thought....

Hank, are you referring to the link that I sent you in the chat?

We need help updating that list so if you can let me know which links are bad that would be great.

I agree that $5k is a lot just for the surgery, I assumed you meant surgery and chemo when you told me what it might cost. I know the folks you saw are terrific, but maybe at this point it might be worth talking to them to see if they can lower their fee or somehow work out a payment plan with you?

Amputation surgery at Tufts Veterinary Hospital in MA is estimated at $3000. They have you drop off on Wed., do surgery Thurs., and pickup Fri. It is a teaching hospital. I did not price the surgery with my vet as I couldn't stomach the idea of this being done as a day surgery. Pre-work alone at our vets was $500; chest x-rays, senior bloodwork, needle aspirate and pathology. When I had Zak's debulking surgery done at my previous vet (with a traveling specialist surgeon) it was $700 including histology.

I hope you can find the assistance you need in Canada!

I will be trying to apply with ACTSS (Animal cancer therapy subsidization society) and the vet said that hank is the perfect candidate for that. They were sending their stuff today and I will apply tomorrow.

I found Care Credit for Canadians. It's called Pet Card. I applied as well as on the ACTSS. Fingers crossed.

Pet Card just phone me and I'm denied. I know I have a bad credit. It must have not helped.

Now I have contacted the hospital where we visit and the shelter where he's from to see if they can't chip in. Gosh this battle is far from being over. sad

Thanks Michelle. I'm still hopeful! There's options out there and I won't be afraid to give them a try. Even if I have to beg at each door.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Is there any way you can appeal? Maybe ask for less and gather money for the balance?

Some other ideas that folks have discussed around here are everything from holding yard sales to bake sales to auctions. Maybe you can also do something like that?

Update.

All paper work have been faxed today. My partner help me with my Essay on why should my dog receive treatment part to make it nice and plenty sad. I included a letter from my team member and my coordinator from PALS (a pet therapy group) to tell these people how valuable Hank is. If I'm denied with all this it won't be because I didn't try. I still have high hopes about this non for profit charity.
