Dexter is doing well nearly 3 and half weeks post op:) He is running when off lead in garden. I was just wondering when he can have lead
walks and how long for? as he loves going out. Thanks:)

The most important thing to focus on is building core strength, muscle growth and balance. Walks do not build strength, only endurance. Start with more frequent much shorter walks, and slowly increase the distance by 1/4 after 5± days of a given route. If Dex stops to rest, he's gone to far. Cut the distance in half and repeat.

Work on stretching, unstable surface work, and core strengthening throughout the day to build strength. Perform massage and PROM (Passive Range Of Motoin) exercises to increase flexibility and prevent injury. Complete details can be found in Loving Life On Three Legs, the canine rehab and exercise e-book filled with professional tips and how-to videos, now available in the Tripawds e-books library.
