Alfie had his back leg amputated a week ago and has had to stay in the vets because he got pneumonia aswell. As a result he has had a catheter in. This was removed to enable him to come home and we are trying to get him to do a 'normal' pee. Have others had difficulty getting their dogs to pee normally - is it because they don't have the confidence to do it without the leg? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Alfie & family welcome, your future posts won't need moderation. Sorry he's had such a ruff go of things, how long has it been since he last went? If it's been more than 12 hours call your vet, he may need assistance. Most dogs urinate without problem within the first day, it's going #2 that can take longer. Not so much a confidence thing but because pain meds mess things up.

Gosh! Really sorry Alfie has had these extra "challenges" on topof the amputation! Darm!
Yeah, as Jerry said, let your vet know...gotta' be a miserable feeling!
But ALFIE IS HOME! I know that's a good feeling!!
How is he doing as far as recoering from tne amp. going? Is his pain managed? Is he eating? Has he pooped? Just curious, did his pneumonia start right away at the vets after surgery, or had he been home a few days first. Regardless, it's a very quick onset and I'm hoping they're getting it under controll quicky.
