I was wondering if the season a dog recover might affect it's ability to cope and recover from the amputation. My boy likes it outside and he enjoy snow but I know some other breeds are more incline to like the warmth of the sun rather than the cold of winter. I was also thinking that resting outside in a nice warm summer day (not in direct sun) might be beneficial too. What do you guys think?

I'm not sure about that one. We live in California so we don't get the cold and snow like you do. I do notice the last couple of nights here have been very cold and Cadence seems a bit more stiff, but then again so do I. Not sure if that just her age and mine. During the day, when its sunny, she will find a spot in the yard that has the sun, and she will lay down and sunbathe. I'm gonna say if she is used to the cold and the snow then it may not effect her as it would a dog like Cadence who is not used to it. The next time we go to the snow, I'm gonna have to see if it effects her. Maybe one of the vets on this site will be able to give you a better answer.

Good question. We are getting snow and supposed to be in a blizzard warning right now. I do know I am glad we had warmer weather and no snow until now to help with Sassy's recovery. Right after her surgery she did lay outside in the sun for long periods of time. It was warmer. we will see how she does with the snow.

I'm glad you guys are telling me your point of view. I want that too. I'm just curious of the effect of the seasons/weather can have on the healing.

Great question!
I think one aspect of recovery success and how climate can impact it depends on the dog's breed and personality, not necessarily the weather. For example, our Wyatt hates heat and sun. Recovering in that kind of weather would be very hard on him. And vice versa for any dog who loves heat.
Just my two cents.
