Well as expected Rubys incision does need to be Debrided. (Photos on prior post). Apparently during surgeries of this magnitude sometimes skin that looks "good" gets sewn up into the incision closure but later it turns out this tissue did not have enough oxygenation. NOw to me that sounds like something that should of or could of been avoided by the surgeon, but she's been great so I'm not going to start casting doubts now and have some sort of bad karma outstanding. Anyway, Ruby goes back in tomorrow and they will remove the dead tissue and then pull it all up into another roll and stitch it closed. THat part is good because I had pictured all sorts of open wounds with wet-to-dry dressing changes like I have to do on my hospital patients. But nevertheless the surgery is costing us 500-800 depending on meds and stuff they use even though surgeon is "comping" her time (antoher indication to me thta maybe things weren't exactly right the first surgery.
But poor Ruby girl. She has been doing so great, loves the park and still loves to ride there in her wagon. I'll try and post some photos of the gorgeous girl. THis will delay physical therapy by about a week maybe longer. What an ordeal this has been~~\\\

Seems to me they should comp more than the surgeon's time. Understandable that this would be frustrating for you. One thing I discovered during the first year of our journey - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Once these days are in your rear-view mirror, Ruby's success will be that much sweeter. Ruby sounds like a warrior, and will face this obstacle too. Keeping you all in our prayers as you move forward.
Paula and Nitro
Nitro 11 1/2 yr old Doberman; right front amp June 2014. Had 6 doses carboplatin, followed by metronomic therapy. Rocked it on 3 legs for over 3 years! My Warrior beat cancer, but couldn't beat old age. He crossed the Bridge peacefully on July 25, 2017, with dignity and on his terms. Follow his blog entitled "Doberman's journey"
"Be good, mama loves you".....run free my beautiful Warrior
Im so sorry to hear that 🙁 so, you have to pay that much for the second surgery, wow! What was the initial price if I may ask? Im not aware of US cost and Im very curious to compare to Canadian cost LOL I know its very frustrating, I can imagine...but one day, it will be all behind you guys. Best of luck for tomorrow!
Hi Ruby,
Good luck tomorrow. This one will be a lot easier than the last one -- you and I have already mastered the 3-legged walk. If we can do that, we can do anything! This is just another incision and more silly drugs. You got it, girl!
Love, Milo
P.S. Do you have a boyfriend? I'm still single, but neutered if you're ok with that. But if we're Tripawd Triplets, is that weird?
Dang I'm sorry, that is frustrating for sure. It bites when things go wrong, we just want our dogs to feel better.
Probably not reassuring you too much, but I just want to add that sometimes even the best vets and technology can't predict when a complication will occur. I say this having had some expensive dental work go awry recently, and being reassured by a dentist relative (who didn't do the work) that even the best care is always at risk of an issue, even the brightest in the field can't see the future 100%. I have to pay to have the dental work redone and it sucks, but my relative dentist said to think of it as kind of like getting your car fixed: sometimes a second round of work is necessary in order to complete the job. Vets, MDs, etc, it's all the same really. Still frustrating though. Sounds like your surgeon gets it.
All we can do is our best to find great care and you have absolutely done that, you're in a great area for awesome vets. I'm sure this will be the last issue. We are sending all our love & well wishes that this is the last time she needs a surgery, keep us posted OK?

Okay Ruby, let's get 'er stitched up right and get back to a "normal"'recovery..if tnere is such a thing!!
And yeah, you might ask them to reconsider negotiating the costs down even more. At least supplies and meds at"cost" with no mark up. As Jerry says though, sometimes these complications occur regardless.
Yikes Jerry!! More dental work js required??? Have any if Wyatt's Tramadol to help ya' through?
Love!

As Jerry said, even in the best circumstances, as you know, things can go awry. Important thing is to have a plan. The one week delay on PT really would not be concerning to me. The important thing is to get rid of that bad tissue and get her healed up.
Pretty Ruby, we are all sending best thoughts for a great outcome today!
Lisa, Minneapolis
On October 27, 2016, nearly 6 months after amputation, and 18 months since his cancer likely started, we lost Pofi to a recurrence of Soft Tissue Sarcoma in his spine quite suddenly. His canine sister also succumbed to cancer on March 1, 2019 - we lavished her with our love in the interim, but life was never quite the same without her only real canine friend. Cliff kitty had to leave us, too, suddenly, in August 2019. Lucia kitty grieved all these losses, but helped us welcome two new Lurchers into our home and our lives, Shae and Barley.
Thinking about you and Ruby today! Hopefully she will be back in her wagon in no time
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Will be crossing all fingers and paws here for everything to go well today. We too had to go back into surgery (different reason tho Max tore part of his open ) but all was well after. Milo you crack me up. But I have heard online dating is the way to meet your partner. 😳😀😉. LOL. Anyways keep us posted on beautiful Ruby please. Hugs!
That Ruby is a high maintenance Diva! But yeah, havi g Ruby with you happy and pain free is PRICELESS 🙂
