hi all!

my Bentley is going to have his second to last chemo this Thursday can't wait! But he has just gotten another ear infection. He had one about a month ago as well. Wondering if it could be from the chemo. He takes clavamox for 2 weeks after he recieves treatment and just finished it recently. I find it odd he gets infection while on antibiotic. Any experiences with infections help. Thanks!!

Hi Bentley and familyheart

Eurydice is completing her 6th (and last) carboplatin session next week and she never had any ear infection during chemo so no advice, I'm afraid.

What does your onco think???

Hugs and cuddles heart

Eurydice 77kg/170lb Great Dane limping end of April 2016, amputation (right front leg/osteosarcoma) 4 May 2016 6 courses of carboplatin followed by metronomic therapy, lung mets found 30 Nov 2016. 3 courses of doxorubicin, PET scan 26 Jan 2017 showed more mets so stopped chemo. Holistic route April 2017. Lung X-ray 5 May 2017 showed several tennis ball size mets, started cortisone and diuretics. Miss Cow earned her XXL silver wings 12 June 2017, 13 months and 1 week after amputation and 6 1/2 months after lung mets, she was the goofiest dawg ever and is now happily flying from cloud to cloud woof woofing away :-)

We are seeing her again on Thursday so I will ask then but will bring Bentley to the vet to get it treated tomorrow so he doesn't have to have a painful ear. Bentley is on CCNU chemo and his blood count is always pretty low. Good luck on Eurydice's last chemo!!!

The chemo does suppress the immune system so our pups are more likely to get infections.  Has Bentley been prone to ear infections before chemo? Has he been in the water more often?

In my experience with my pugs once they start getting ear infections they seem to happen more frequently.  Maggie got ear infections quite often even before she went through chemo.

You might talk with your vet about getting some ear wash stuff and then being proactive about cleaning Bentley's ears more often.  I'm having to do that now with quad-pug Obie who is on his third ear infection this year.

Congrats on almost being done with chemo!  Certainly a cause for celebration!
