Happy day! My 13 year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever just had his front leg amputated due to an accident 2 weeks ago. His incision is not healing, he keeps using his shoulder to try to get up. We can see his bone. This is wrong, isn't it? How long can it take to heal if his incision keeps opening up? It is hard to keep him quiet so he does not hurt himself. This is keeping him from making progress with walking. Any ideas?

No, you should not be seeing any bone! Please consult with your vet or seek a second opinion. You will find other stories of dogs who have had difficulty healing by searching these forums. Hopefully others can provide better advice. What is your pup's name?
Be sure to keep him from licking the wound and do not put anything on it, except maybe a t-shirt to keep the area clean.

Oh poor kid! Yes, I agree, talk to your vet or get a second opinion, this doesn't sound normal. Was this a partial amputation? If so, we've seen lots of issues happen when a partial is done.
Please let us know how he does this week. We want to hear more about him.

Poor baby! Please call your vet right away about this. It sounds not only painful but also like a huge infection risk.
Let us know more about your pup. What's his name and age? And do let us know what happens after you talk to your vet.

Get thee to a vet! You should only see bones through xrays! Please let us know what the vet says.
Once the incision heals he'll be so happy to be without the leg pain anymore! Then he'll really be able to start his tripawd journey.
