Hello Everyone! I have been on here before, but got locked out of my old email address and had to create a new username to get back. Today is Sully's ONE YEAR AMPUVERSARY! We are surely celebrating all of the wonderful time we have had with him that we didn't expect to get. I did think that I would be celebrating today differently, as Sully is currently at the vet being put under for x-rays.
On Tuesday, Sully started yelping in pain every time he moved his neck. This has happened once before as he has pinched a nerve or pulled a muscle because of his gait (he lost his front right leg). The pain seemed to get worse and then Tuesday night we noticed a hard lump and some swelling along his scar, by his ribcage. We are wracking our brains trying to remember if he fell and injured himself, cracked a rib, but of course the first place our minds go is that it is a tumor.
Yesterday we took Sully in for some preliminary x-rays and the vet (not our regular vet) said that his lungs looked good (we will get more specifics today). After a whole year, we will consider that a HUGE win!! But she couldn't get a good look at the lump without having him on his back which he would not allow. So today he is going under sedation and being looked at by our regular vet, and we are waiting for answers.
We were told yesterday that it could be a piece of bone, which sounds fixable with a less invasive procedure, but of course at 2am I am awake googling. I just keep asking myself, if it is a tumor, what do we do? Do we put him through another surgery? After Sully's amputation, my husband and I decided not to do chemo. We wanted him to have quality, pain-free time how ever long or short that was. My natural reaction is I want to fix it, but I can't "fix" cancer. I guess we will wait to hear the results, but I'm reaching out to all of you for positive thoughts and prayers today that maybe its something simple and that either way we'll know what decisions to make when the time comes.
I'm sorry you couldn't get logged in under your original account.

Happy one year Ampuversary Sully! That definitely needs to be celebrated, even if it is a bit subdued.
I'm sorry Sully is having some problems- but stay away from Dr. Google!!!! I know it's hard but you need to wait for a diagnosis and save yourself the 'what if's?'.
I hope the news today is good and fixable. I'll be checking back for an update.

Happy one year ampuversary! That is a lot to celebrate, and hopefully the pain/lump will be something that you can do something about.

BRAVO Sully! Hoppy Ampuversary, a big congrats for kicking cancer's odds to the curb!
Thanks for coming back and trying to post. Sorry about the hassle.
Yes, it could very well be what your vet said. Wyatt Ray had a similar thing happen, you can read about it here. We'll keep our paws crossed that Sully's situation is easily resolved. Hang in there and keep us posted!

Yeah! Hoppy Ampuversary Sully!! One year is amazing!
Fingers crossed that everything is clear! Hopefully it's all just pinched nerve/muscle aches! Several of us have been dealing with those aches & pains - they sure are scary when they happen! Murphy was doing just fine one morning, went outside for 15 minutes and when he came inside he laid down and yelped. I couldn't find anything specific, felt all over, put ice on his good leg, gave him a tramadol... a little while later when I was feeling around again I tried to turn his head out of my way so I could feel his shoulder better and that's when he yelped, so I figured it had to be in his neck. So I gave him a really good massage and let him rest.
Hope you had a great celebration Sully!

Thank you all for your kind words and support. After a long day at the vet yesterday, the x-rays revealed nothing! The vet did find one small nodule in his lungs, obviously not the source of his pain, and after a year we'll consider it a blessing that thats all that has grown. Sully didn't yelp or whine once at the vet's office and he seems much better since he came home. The vet said he gave him a good massage as he checked out his neck, so we are wondering if maybe that movement "un-pinched" a nerve or something?
We are still concerned about the strange hard lump that appeared at the end of his incision, but are now realizing that it does not seem to be the source of pain for Sully and didn't show up on the x-ray as a tumor or a fracture or anything. For now we will monitor it and make sure it doesn't grow or become painful. Sully's pain medicine hasn't worn off fully and won't until tomorrow, so we'll see how he is doing then. This sweet dog of mine is certainly teaching me to take it one day at a time, and today is a good day, so we are thankful for that!
SULLY!!! HANDSOME SULLY!! A whole lot to ccelebrate sweetboy!! 🙂
HAPPY ONE YEAR AMPUVERSARY SULLY! A great milestone....And keep 'em coming!!
And the check up is basically good! It sounds like some really good neck massaging and some pain meds may be all that's required to get over this hurdle!
Yes, today is a GOOD day and that's all that matters. The gift of learning to live in the NOW js a powerful one that our dogs and cats teach us!
