I am so sad as we just got the news from the vet that the lump that appeared on Shooter's amputation site is another mast cell tumor. He has been doing so well and is so busy and happy that we thought we were going to avoid this happening. Now we are regrouping and trying visit all the options. My vet is waiting for calls from a couple of oncologists to see what is recommended as a next step.

I have visited Rosie's site and was going to check out everything on Maggie, but haven't had time since we just found out this afternoon.

I just needed to vent - it's just not fair!!

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Ugh! You're right, it's not fair.  I hope your vet gets some good information from the onco's.  Hang in there.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Hi Luann,
I understand how you feel! Our Daisy was diagnosed a few weeks ago with 3 lung mets almost 14 mos after amputation. It's not fair when they were doing so well. I'm trying to 'cry it out' when she's not around so I don't upset her but as I said, it's not fair!
Sending good thoughts your way for Shooter!

Cancer sucks, mast cell cancer sucks.
Maggie did have recurring MCT's, but none at her amp site. Her little sis Tani had/has 9 MCTs. Her's are very reactive, coming and going so I've stopped taking them off. We are treating Tani sort of holistically, she has lots of other health issues so I'm not being really aggressive with the MCTs. Tani had her first tumors removed in 2007 so she has had mast cell for a long time with minimal effects. Maggie lived with mast cell for 4.5 years and did not pass from mast cell. I know not all pups are so lucky, but sometimes...

Another blog you should look at is Rio's.

There are more options out there now than when Maggie was hopping down this road. I hope you find something that works well for Shooter.

Sending you all the pug MCT fighting juju we can spare!

Karen

Grrr. That sucks. Here's hoping that they will figure something out, and shooter will take a page from the Pugapalooza Playbook <3

Shooter and Luanne..I tried for over an hour last night to make my stupid submit button work pk and it just cross and froze!! I soooooowa ted to be there for you as fast as possible as you always are with us!

"SHOOTER IS SO. BUSY AND SO HAPPY'
". And nothing has changed that. You are being so diligent with Shooter and observant......the vet just found "it" and "it" in know way has touched Shooter's well being!

As soon as you catch your breath...AND YOU ARE ALREADY BREATHING MORE REFULARLY NOW....( I don't hear the large gasp I g sounds from you over here---they were really loud at first:-) :-) ). Now you KNOW you and the vet will come up with a plan. You are already doing the Vin Latin....are you doing prednisone too? And I know there's something...H1 and H2 receptor antagonist (?).....some treatment that helps keep his tummy strong.....sorry, I have no knowledge on this but just remembering some of this from Dressler book and maybe from Dr. Karen Becker somewhere. I know she is definitely open to complimentary holistic approach too.

Every time I see that sweet Shooter's picture on your post it makes me smile:-) :-) Yes, it's sweet and gentle AND, underneath is a strong ROCKSTAR SUPERDOG who has NO intention of going anywhere anytime soon:-) :-) NO INTENTION!!! Shooter is a gloriously happy dog with a terrific attitude and that does, indeed, help her continue to power on through anything thrown her way:-) :-) :-)
I think we need a picture of Shooter in his superman cape....I know he. maybe a little too dignified for our human silliness but I also KNOW SHOTTER IS ONE REALLY STRON VIBRANT DOGand he defines Super Rock Star Dog:-) :-)

Know this sounds silly of me to say (so what else is new?)__I really do feel very positive about Shooter, I really do---SHOOTER IS I. FOR THE LONG HAUL:-) :-)

And we are all here for you Sweet Leanne....right by your side every step of the way. We are all your family (scarey, huh?) and we MUST have more photos:-) :-) :-)

What makes Shooter grin from ear to ear? Just saying "cookie". or "treat". or "Ice cream"?........or just getting belly rubs?.....Those are the pictures....people...send us one of those?? Of course, the cape is always an option:-) :-)

Let us know your new empowered plan when you can!!

Holding you and Shooter in a safe, special healing place in our hearts!

Sally and Happy Hannah

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!

I feel awful! We were all having fun in chat last night and you didn't get a chance to tell us about this! We needed to rally around you and instead we were just being our usual weird selves.

So many dogs here have battled mast cell tumors. I choose to think of the ones who overcame for a very long time, like Maggie and Rio. I will think pawsitively and throw all my good wishes toward Shooter. Next time you're in chat, we'll give you a group hug.

You're not whining, geez who can blame you for being upset? We're all upset too, cancer is so mean! mad

There's people here who know more about mast cell than I do so they can help you with resources about that but in the meantime know that you have the love of the Tripawds community backing you up and sending all the pawsitive and hopeful energy we can do help get rid of that nasty cancer.

Again - thank you all so much!!!

Sally we have taken a deep breath. I knew your humor would make me smile! Karen- thanks for the advice and the encouragement that there is a way to get past this. To all of you - I LOVE THIS PLACE!! Everyone here can make me breath, smile and go on no matter what.Rene amd Jim thanks for the gift of this site.

Shooter went on a mile walk to help raise money for canine cancer research today and did great. He might even make it on the news! I'll be posting some pics on his blog.

Now that's really something....going on a mile walk with three legs is no small feat!! Guess he's just not paying ANY attention to a "diagnosis"....doesn't even cross his sweet doggy mind:-) :-)

Please focus on how great he's responded to everything thrown his way and that makes such a huge difference in his magnificent ability to continue on in a healthy, fit way.

YOU and SHOOTER have your act together and will be drawn to all the right steps you need to take to keep that.cutie pie ROCKSTAR with you for a long time:-) :-) :-)

And he's gonna' be on the news?? Just another confirmation Shooter is a Famous ROCKSTAR....in the same category as say......Kid Rock, Mick Jagger, Adelle and Billy Ray Cyrus (kidding about Billy Ray.:-) :-) )

Co gratulations on your walk Shooter and for raising awareness:-) :-) :-) You and your mom have a lot of heart in so many ways:-) :-)

Always here for you!! Sally and Happy Hannah
