Thanks for the welcome Jerry, and I have to say the site is a great find, but no site is complete without the great crew of 'pawrents' who you have attracted, well done to you.

For anyone who liked the picture, thanks, it is Elliott and his best friend puskins, both of who were rescued from bad situations, Elliott from the pound and the cat turned up on our doorstep 3 years ago severely injured but who made a full recovery apart from her tail which is off centred and affects her balance ever so slightly.

I went to the vet this afternoon and god some meds for Elliott, they are called Meloxidyl, and we give it to him twice a day now.

Thanks again for the advice on home cooking, he ate well this evening and polished off a nice bowl of rice, chicken with a chicken stock cube mixed in.

Will let you know how he progresses. (I can hear him dreaming as I am typing)

One last thing, he seems to find it hard to go to the toilet, is there anyone with any ideas how to loosen his stools?

Ta folks.

Hey Elliott, Yes I had that question too, It took Zoe a full week to go, the vet said canned pumpkin or I'm not sure whats available in Ireland, but Metamucil makes a fiber cookie here, that's what I did because I didnt know if Zoe would eat Pumpkin or not, it was 1 wafer a day and worked like a charm, she thought it was a treat.

Elliott,

I have to agree with Eve abd Romeo.  Your dog has been through a lot.  This is his second major surgery in a short amount of time.  Add to that the trauma of getting hit by a car!  It sounds to me like he is doing pretty darn good.  I'd give him more time before I was overly concerned. Having said that, in the mean time I would ask the vet for more pain meds.  There is no reason for dogs to be in pain after amputation.  Good luck and welcome to tripawds.
