Per my last post, Ruby our Staffie had her rear leg amputated for osteosarcoma 3.5 weeks ago. She was a bit better after I posted, we even coaxed her to eat 2 C of dog food w/chicken on Thu. But by late last night after eating poorly all night, she suddenly started puking, and can't hold down anything, not even water, she's puking yellow bile/mucous, has a teeny bit of diarrhea, of what's left in her stomach. Taking her to emergency vet today :( . Hoping her end isn't nigh, and we amputated for nothing, for real. :( . Has this happened to anyone?

Hey guys I'm so sorry. This sounds like it could be anything, hopefully nothing serious. Is she on a non-steroidal like Metacam or Rimadyl? Those often cause GI upset. Please keep us posted OK? We have our paws crossed that you get some comforting news today.

Have not had that particular situation bit I wouldn't doubt that others have who will chime in.

Soooo glad you are going to vet!!!! Please update asap

Could be from not eating and then all of the sudden eating more than her tummy is used to. Vet will probably put her on IV loaded with good stuff so don't be alarmed if they keep her over night.

I know to say b r e a t h e and surround yourself with calm is a lot easier said than done.

You have made a right decision for Ru y based on love and that is a right decision. As soon as the vet can figure out why she's having these challenges and puts you on a plan you--and she will feel so much better. I'm really glad you are going to vet so a solution can be implemented. Could also be the meds too.

We are all here for you and you come o. This site and express any fears without hesitation...don't hold them in. Now, with your strong calm loving energy, you go hug Ruby girl and know that all is well

Walking with you, helping to hold you up and putting all sorts of good luck in our paws to embrace, Sally and Happy Hannah

Poor baby! Hopefully it is just a mixture of stress and drugs on her system. Sending thoughts and prayers your way. Will wait for your update.

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Thanks all. We haven't had her on any meds lately (we held off on the Rimadyl since it's like ibuprofen and could make her tummy worse), and she didn't seem to need the tramadol. That said, once her gut seems like it's holding up, we may start the tramadol back up tomorrow, to see if that helps, per the vet's thinking, which makes sense.

The vet kept her for 2.5 hrs, and ran some bloodwork to make sure her liver/pancreas/kidney's were OK. (they are) Gave her a shot of something to calm her stomach, and a cortisone, in case her stomach is inflamed, and subcutaneous fluid. The vet said he'd call us at 10am tomorrow. They gave us some prescription easily-digestible canned dog food. (honestly, I'm having trouble seeing why it would be any better than chicken and rice, but whatever, we have it). Since coming home, she's drinking well, (and not puking the water, yet), but still lousy appetite. Poor thing has lost 3 lbs since her 2 week post-op 1.5 weeks ago. :( .  She's down from 36 to 33 lbs. I think she was 39 lbs post op w/o the leg? Hoping we can get her appetite back, and that she can hold it down....stay tuned!

I'm sorry to hear Ruby isn't feeling well!  I don't have any advice to offer, as we never experienced anything like this.  Just want to say I hope your girl gets to feeling better very soon!  Hang in there!

Aack, back to not well. Ruby couldn't hold down anything this am, puked up most of what she'd eaten yesterday, couldn't hold down water, labored breathing, drooling, just laying in grass outside as she didn't want to be sick in house :( . We had to call the vet on emergency. He's got her, is redoing Xrays to see if she has metasteses that were missed in her stomach or lungs, this is such torture. Ruby is only 7yo. We don't want to make our dog suffer, but I wish we had a clear answer so we knew what to do :( .

It is torture and unfair and unnerving. You have her at the vet and, as long as you have confidence in them, that is the best place for her to be.

It doesn't' seem likely that they would miss anything in the stays. Even if they didn't see anything and now something shows up it shouldn't be causing all these problems for her this quickly.

Keep doing whatever tests they suggest....they have to figure out what the deal is is she can get back to feeling better. Have they done any type of test to check foroison? Of course, all her tests are coming back okay.......... All surgery related stuff okay? Didn't leave anything inside surgery site?It has happened,

She did peak up temporarily yesterday so that's a good sign. Know it's sooooo hard to feel helpless but you are doing everything possible. Maybe someone who knows thissite better than I could pose the aappropriate question to "Ask The Vet" for insight.

She maybe real uncomfortable a and nauseated but that's not a hard core painful suffering so you still have time to figure things out.

We are so sorry this is happening and would do anything to push this rotten part of the journey behind you so the healing could begin full blast! And there's no reason that can't happen

Please write a soon as you can

Sending you healing love

Well, we have her back from the vet. They gave her: anti-puke injection (serenia), a stomach coating pill, pepcid injection, and something like flagyll, and a LOT of subcutaneous fluid. The vet said her intestines were full of diarrhea and were clearly highly inflamed, so he wants to see if the antibiotics might knock it back. They couldn't see anything in xrays or bloodwork. We can't do this to Ruby for too many days like this, the whole family has been crying on and off for 2 days, and our poor Ruby looks absolutely miserable :( . Sorry it's not a better update.

She was on pepcid and benadryl the first 2 weeks. (She also had a small Mast cell tumor removed, that could release histamine and cause nausea, apparently), but we were told after 2 weeks it was unnecessary. So we stopped it. Could be related. Could not be. Nobody seems to be clear on that. But our poor dog is just laying there in a pool of drool (sorry, but it's true, it's just awful.way-confused ) We'll see how she does tonight.... Our 10yo lay next to her and read a book to herself and kept her company, so she's surely more psychically comfortable being home with her family than at the vet, but this really stinks.

Glad she is one with you. I know having your ten yr. old lay beside her and read to her was therapeutic for everyone.. It really does stink that this is happening. Does the vetgive out any iI icstion what's going on? Does he think it's an infection? Fever? Antibiodic s certainly take a little the to kick in and it's only been since yesterday.

Have you talked to your surgeon to see if he's been anything like this?

She knows you are doing everything for her and, feeling as miserable as she does from having a big time upset stomach she may try feeling better in the net two.three days

Keep up with the loving and we are sending a large, U-haul-it full to help sustain you 'til Ruby starts feeling better...and shewill
