Also I would like so help about chemo after amputation my dog had two mast cell tumors I already feel like a monster after amputation I dont want to see him sick or miserable again ever! I see how he is fighting he wants to live and that gives me comfort about amputation but I believe chemo will make him sick what about radiation ???? My husband family already thinks im crazy for spending all the money but he is my beloved child.no regrets even if I spend all savings it will be worth it if he can live a healthy and pain free life

No, you're  not crazy!  Well, not amonf this crew anyway  We definitely  understand  the depth of love and devotion  you have for your sweet Benny!❤  You are doing everything possible to give him a pain free quality  life full  of lobing and spoiling!!  And I kmow he appreciates  the opportunity  to get to be Benny!😁

There are no guarantees  with or without chemo .  Some appear to get extended time with it....some do not.  Some appear ro get extended time without  it.....some do not.  THE MOST IMPORTANT  THING IS TO MAKE EVERY MOMENT COUNT!!!  Benny sure will!

Jist passing this on.....Generally  dogs have few side effects with chemo.  It's  not given in as high a dose as wirh humams.  Sometimes  there is a bit of nausea  for a day or so, vut they are given meds for that.  Some may be a vit tired for a day or so.   Some swil through with no symptoms  at all, like my Happy Hannah..You can stop chemo at any time of there are side effects thst are hard.

Sritches can taken out anywhere from ten days on....generally around the fourteen day mark seems to be the "norm".     Obviously , week ends, holodays, etc. can xhange that one way or another by several days.

I'm  sure the Vet won't  take the stitches  out if the incision  isn't  fully healed.  Any drainage or obvious irritarion?    My tripawd Frankie recently  had surgery on one of his remaining  three legs.   For a variety of reasons, stitches  stayed in for over three weeks before I was able to  have them removed and things were just fine.

Try this link for adding images .  It can be a vit tricky  with a tavlet or phone .  We'd  love to see poctures of this feisty  fella'!😎

Hugs

Let me add my thoughts on this. And I do wish you all the best. Sometimes when I think I’m going overboard, I plan ahead and when the time comes that my dog has to go to the rainbow bridge, in my grief I will  have no regrets . I did everything for that dog .I gave him my full and devoted effort and attention.

Hi there,

Glad to see that you are post surgery and doing well clap  I would ask your vet of course, but I believe sutures out in 12 will be better than 20. The scabs are a normal part of the healing process. When the  sutures are in too long they can get a little embedded in the skin and are harder to take out. After suture removal he will still have some healing to do, and they may recommend an e-collar (if he is wearing one) for another week post suture removal to make sure the area continues to heal without being irritated by licking, etc.

Hope this helps,

Jackie and Huckleberry heart

Hugs,

Jackie, Bo, Andy, Oscar, Phoebe, and the coolest feral tripawd kitty Huckleberry
