last week i met with a representative of the morris animal foundation, and she told me about a new study which is being planned by morris to study canine cancer. the study is the Canine Lifetime Health Project. they are going to be tracking golden retrievers from puppyhood through their adult lives to gather data for this - sounds like they have many, many major researchers signed on to work on this important project. i know there are many of the tripawd family who have recently gotten new golden puppies, this is a great opportunity for you. if you're interested, here's a bit from their website:
Morris Animal Foundation’s Canine Lifetime Health Project is a
groundbreaking, long-term study to learn how to prevent cancer and other canine
diseases.
The project will identify genetic, nutritional and environmental risk factors
for cancer and other diseases that affect dogs and is the largest and longest
prospective study of dogs ever undertaken. Identification of these risk factors
is critical for knowing how to prevent cancer, the top disease affecting dogs.
The Canine Lifetime Health Project will enroll healthy Golden Retrievers, ages
2–5 years, and will follow them throughout the remainder of their lives.
Although the study will initially involve only Golden Retrievers (because of
their increased tendency to develop cancer), the information collected will also
lead to strategies that can prevent and treat cancer in many other breeds. The
project will also help to identify new diagnostic tests, diets and therapies for
treating cancer and other diseases in our canine friends.
Scientists are currently in the final stages of designing the Canine Lifetime
Health Project. Once the study design is finalized, we will begin enrolling
dogs. If you would like to receive notification when enrollment begins,
