In today's Fully Vetted blog post, Dr. Patty Khuly discusses the genetic connection for cancer in dogs:

In the article, Dr. Khuly discusses breeds at risk for cancer with data from a recent Wall Street Journal article, and she advocates for better breeding practices to help stem the rising tide of cancer in younger dogs.

"Ultimately, there’s no explanation good enough to account for why so many of our pets — canine or feline — succumb to cancer. But there's one thing I do know: If there's a way to mitigate the risk through better breeding, we need to start taking steps to get it done."

I saw the WSJ article a couple days ago when someone sent me the link. 

I like Dr. Khuly's version as well...she makes a VERY valid point!
