In today's Fully Vetted blog post, Dr. Patty Khuly discusses the genetic connection for cancer in dogs:
Why Does my Pet Have Cancer? (And the Genetic Connection)
PetMD Fully Vetted: MAY 06, 2010
In the article, Dr. Khuly discusses breeds at risk for cancer with data from a recent Wall Street Journal article, and she advocates for better breeding practices to help stem the rising tide of cancer in younger dogs.
"Ultimately, there’s no explanation good enough to account for why so many of our pets — canine or feline — succumb to cancer. But there's one thing I do know: If there's a way to mitigate the risk through better breeding, we need to start taking steps to get it done."
FYI: Pet MD's "Fully Vetted" is the new home of Dr. Khuly's daily veterinary column, previously known as her Dolittler blog.

I saw the WSJ article a couple days ago when someone sent me the link.
I like Dr. Khuly's version as well...she makes a VERY valid point!
