Hello all! Super happy we found this wonderful community!
Our wonderful Golden Retriever, Mama Roxy, had a litter of 10 puppies on June 25th, 2021, here in Vancouver, BC, Canada. Unfortunately, one puppy, a female, was born with a deformed/not fully developed front paw. This is the first time in our 7 litters that this has happened. She is currently 16 days old.
We have been chatting back and forth with our vet a bunch. So far, it seems like her underdeveloped front paw is just an isolated birth defect. She has been checked for other defects, such as a cleft palate, but doesn't have any. She is also growing like a weed and feeding super super well. She is actually the biggest and strongest girl! She is very loving and feisty! At 7 weeks when the puppies go for their vaccines and check up, she will be thoroughly checked. But it is looking like she will be a healthy dog and will just be tripawd Additionally, since she was born this way, she has no trauma, and knows nothing different. So we believe she will still be a loving and loyal Golden!
We have decided that we are going to look for a loving family to adopt her, love her, and give her the life she deserves. Unfortunately, our family already has 3 dogs, so we wouldn't be able to give her the life and love she deserves. Obviously, we are not charging anything for her, we hope that a family can put that money towards any special care she might need. We just want her to have an amazing life and family. She will be ready to go to her forever home August 19th, 2021. Obviously, if we find a family for her, they will be kept in the loop about her development and health all through the process these next few weeks.
If you think your family (or a family) would be interested in her, please let us know and email / reach out with any questions. We are happy to video chat, send pictures & videos of her being an active puppy with the others, and more!
Hi Jessica! I'm so glad you posted here. She is a lucky girl to have such a caring human looking out for her future. As I mentioned in Instagram, it's important not to rush to amputation until an orthopedic vet experienced in prosthetics can take a look at her. Many dogs who are limb different are great candidates for artificial legs and if her future family wants to pursue it, waiting to amputate will give her the biggest chance at successfully using one.
It would be suuuuuuuper helpful to have a few photos and video here if you would like us to help get the word out in other ways. We would love to help find her family in any way we can.
Thanks for caring and letting us know!

Oh. My. DOG! PUPPY!!!! She is just so dang cute!
It looks like she may be a great candidate for a prosthesis, she's got a ton of residual limb left. I hope whoever adopts her will want to investigate prosthetics for her. They can make such a huge difference in long-term quality of life.
OK we'll do our best to get the word out. Thanks for posting and sharing!
