Hi Admin guy,

I hesitate to post this because my details are sketchy, but I thought the list of Unread or Recently Updated Topics was supposed to display in order?  That is -all unread by date (or time) which would rotate down or out when I read them.  And I have always seen topics that I post to move to the top of the list.  Well, thats not happening now.  There are 3 year old posts showing (bumped by spammers I think) and they are not rotating out.

Could it be multiple platforms are messing me up?  I was home all weekend on my Mac (firefox) or iPad (safari).  Yesterday I cleared history on my Mac and even re-booted (for another issue) and it didn't fix it.  I am on my Mac now.  I have a PC at work (firefox) and was noticing the same issues there today.

As an example, I posted this 5 min ago and it is not displaying in the Updated Topics List.

I noticed this same thing, but I'm using a single platform -- Firefox.

This is expected behavior as the system will now presume you have read your own posts. The topic should appear in the list again once another user has posts after you.

And yes, a bumped topic will appear in the list even after a recent post has been deleted. And we have been seeing a lot of spam comments recently.

On the same or different computers/devices? It is multiple IP addresses that may cause the count to be reset.

OK- I'm sure that when I post the topic moves to the top of the list and I can see my name as the last poster, it does not have the 'unread' box on the right side.  But in the last couple of days when I post the whole topic disappears from the list.

And- as another example, your post in this thread showed as being 41 min old but it disappeared from the list after I read it.  Instead there are posts that I have read that are days or months old in the list.

And I'm not talking about the count- that never seems right and I have given up on it, I log on from two different addresses so I'm not sure that will ever be in sync.

I just noticed my 'edit post' button is gone!

The first sentence in my last post above was supposed to be a quote from your response.

Maybe I'm confused, but:

  1. We updated to the latest version of the plugin that powers thes forums just a couple days ago, so that may explain the sudden difference.
  2. If you are the last poster, the topic should disappear from the list because the system assumes you read your own post.
  3. Posts from Admins and Moderators are ignored as it is assumed this group of users trusts each other to be maintaining all discussions without the need to intervene if others already have.
  4. We don't write this software, so such changes are beyond our control.
  5. The best way to be apprised of every single topic update is to subscribe via the forum, group or global RSS feeds.

Please advise if I am misunderstanding something (again). Otherwise, we hope this helps clarify matters.

OK- lets agree for now that:

The update changed things (at least in my mind), and

I can't explain things very well.

But what happened to the edit post button?

I took some screen shots at work this morning, but came home early and I'm not sure I'll go in tomorrow. If I have the energy maybe I'll try screen shots from home.

Sorry, meant to mention that. We recently adjusted moderator account permissions. You can now edit your own posts until there has been a reply.

Sorry for the confusion.

Hi Admin Guy,

Here are a couple of screen shots to illustrate what I was seeing when I stared this thread.  The first one is from July 31st when it didn't seem to me to be displaying correctly.  I had just read several topics, and posted in some, but they were not showing in the list even though they were updated more recently than the ones showing in the screen shot (even if I wasn't the one who posted last).

The second one is from today (8/9) and as you can see the topic that I last posted to is at the top.  This is how I remember this page displaying until I brought this up in late July.

I particularly wanted to show this so you know I was not imagining the way the forums displayed on my end.  The topics at the bottom of today's screen shot with older dates  I think were bumped by spammers.  I wonder if what I was seeing in July was because so many posts got bumped by spammers that they took up all the display space for genuinely updated topics?

I don't think you need to do anything- just info.

Thanks for the details, we have indeed been getting a lot of spam comments lately.
