Perhaps. Tavlets may indeed be having problems completing the hidden form fields due to javascript issues. Hence, your comments being held for moderation comments.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to find an anti-spam solution that works for everypawdy. For now, our top priority is to prevent all Tripawds bloggers (many of whom dogs have long since passed) from receiving spam comments on their blog posts.

Affirmative. This has always been the case. The first time anyone comments on a given blog, that comment will be help for moderation. Once approved, future comments on that blog will post without moderation. Again, these are settings that bloggers can change.

FYI: Very short comments, with just a word or two, will likely be spammed immediately or held for moderation. It is common for bots to post a short comment that will get approved, only to return and post many more comments filled with spam links.

Ha. Yes, "tpbarbie" (the username this time) is a spam blogger who keeps attempting to create spam blogs and post crap.

ABSOLUTELY the most important thing is keeping those a**hole spammes outta' here. To think they post on blogs where dogs have passed really piffes me off!!!

And the only reason it even "bothers" me in the least (awaiting moderation) was simply because I always feel badly if people do a blog and no one responds. 
Sometimes their only response would be my one "awaiting moderation" thing.

Most likely. And...we have since deactivated that plugin. Thanks for all the reports.
We are now testing a tried and true method and may have an exciting announcement about this soon...
Hint: Bloggers no longer need to enter their own individual Akismet key to enable spam protection in their blogs.
