Our pup (she is 13) Saturn had to have her left front leg amputated due to cancer. This happened on 2/24. She had to stay at the hospital for 3 nights. I have to say we visited every night and it was heartbreaking. As I have seen on these forums, it sounds so easy (so they say), they recover so quickly. We took her home and my wife and I felt like terrible people as Saturn just laid on her bed, not moving at all. Well, since then every day has been an improvement! Walking, pooping, peeing, getting up. We have never been more proud! She has just kicked a#&!

With all that being said, these forums have been a great asset in times of doubt.  Thanks to all who contribute.

Hope you don't mind I moved your post here but this is a great place in the forums to share stories about senior tripawds. Your future post won't need approval so post away!

So glad she's doing great! Each dog has their own recovery pace but I'm so glad you are on the upside now!

Way to go, Saturn! It really is amazing how resilient even an older pup can be.

Welcome to Tripawds, the best pet cancer and beyond support group in the world!

So glad your sweet senior Saturn is doing well after surgery. Yeah, sometimes our pups scare us right after surgery, but they get back on their paws quicker than we think once they get past the initial post-surgical trauma. Being 13 years old is a testament to her strength and resilience for sure!

Hope she continues to do well, and keep us updated on her when you can!
Best wishes,
Bonnie & Angel Polly

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

Welcome Saturn and family!!!  I'm so glad that Saturn is doing well in her recovery...just keep in mind that usually there are ups and downs during recovery so don't let a "down" period get you discouraged.  Saturn will bounce back and get back to her old ways!

If you have any questions that arise please feel free to ask.  There's a lot of knowledge here with folks that have journeyed down this road.
