My 13 yr old labrador was diagnosed with Telangiectatic Osteosarcoma, which is a less common (and less documented) subtype of osteosarcoma...and it is also a much more aggressive form.  She had surgery to amputate her affected limb (the right forelimb) and she is starting chemotherapy.  Is there anyone who has had experience with this type of cancer with their dog? Look forward to hearing about your experience and advice.  Thanks!

Sassy had Spindle Cell Osteoscaroma.  Never heard of this kind.  Osteoscaroma sucks just like any cancer.  I can tell you Sassy was diagnosed with lung mets after our 4th Chemo and survived 7 3/4 more with the lung mets.

I am not sure if anyone else has heard of that type either but they will chime in.  I am sorry you have to join the club no one wants to be in.

We actually had a different kind of cancer in general (hemangiosarcoma) so I can't weigh in on osteosarcoma but i do want to let you know that you are NOT alone. Cancer sucks ... no matter what kind but we are all here to support you. We did do chemo and Shelby sailed through chemo like a champ. There are many stories here and many success stories ... we also heard "aggressive cancer" and 1 -2 months and lived 8! So those statistics aren't always 100% truth ... live in the moment, celebrate each amazing day and love hard!~

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

That is a new one here but from what my non-scientific mind can get out of this article, it sounds like the only difference is the type of tumor that was there was "Telangiectatic." I am thinking that treatment would be the same for other types of osteosarcoma, but this is a great question for your oncologist and we'd love to find out more when you do. Thanks.

Stella Belle, our 12-year-old boxer, has been diagnosed with Osteocarcoma, variant Giant Cell.  From what I've read, and been told, it too is a very rare subtype - much of the internet research I've done has likened it to the variant Telangiectatic.  Our oncologist believes that Stella developed this rare variant as a result of her prior radiation treatment for a mast cell tumor (in that exact spot!).

All of the information I've found, and she's found, is related to diagnosis and treatment in humans.  Stella started chemotherapy two weeks after amputation (right, hind leg).  She will do six sessions - one every three weeks.  At the time of her diagnosis, and four months later at amputation, there was no visible evidence of metatstatic disease.  The lymph node in her effected leg tested negative for metastisis, too.

I don't know if this helps, but any information I gather along the way, I will be sure to share.  Best of luck!
