The vet just called, and she came through surgery ok but is still in serious condition. Unless anything unexpected happens I can call in the morning and get an update.
Unfortunately, they found the same kind of tumor that she had on her toe further up in her leg, and lining the joint. The doctor said we may have bought her a little time, but they don't know how much right now. We are going to see her tomorrow and may need to make an unpleasant decision.
Not really the news we wanted to hear, and I feel terrible for putting her through this.
Do not feel bad. You have saved her from a lot of pain! It's all about quality of life now, not quantity. Our best advice is to Be More Dog .

Oh no! Not at all what I thought your update would be, I'm so sorry.
I know you feel bad for 'putting her through this' but please try and let that go. You went into this with the best intentions for your girl, there is no way you could have known how bad things were in her leg.
If it helps in any way please share more about your girl Luka here.

Oh noooo! So very sorry...annd shocked!! My heart is breaking in two for you. I'm just so sorry.
You absolutely had no choice but to try and give her a chance. Had you not given her a chance at relieving her pain...had you not even tried...you wou@d be secu guessing yourself.
Unfortunately, surgery has risks. We have seen it on occasion where something like this halpe s so quickky after surgery...young, old, lerfect candidate, none of that matters.
There is something I want to share that Pa., Harmony's mom wrote on another post. "When the body becomes u fit for the Soul, the Soul moves o to a higher place."
Once the surgery exposed how bad things really were, Luka decided to go on and head to the Bridge.
I hope Pam sees this, as I think she can help you process the pain when a dog doesn't either, survive the surgery, or only get a short time afterwards. I think she will reinforce how it is easier to living with "tryi g", than not trying. Obviously, this was not what anyone could anticipate. We all hoped for a better outcome. There was no reason not to think there would have been a better outcome.
I want to come back when I can try and make better sense. I just can't gather my thoughts through the tears right now.
Surrounding you with Luka's eternal grace and thousands and thousands of happy memories.

OH MY GOSH!! I'm just now seeing this!
Bless you and your pack. My heart breaks for you. I know how very hard this was (and is) for you, and I know the conflict you feel in your heart, but your sweet, sweet Luka is forever free at the Bridge. And you know time doesn't exist there; for her, you are already there with her.
Things that I hold on to (even a year and a half after her loss) are knowing she's (Harmony) not trapped in her compromised physical form. Not long after losing her, I saw the movie poster of What Dreams May Come and I immediately understood Harmony's destiny as well as our eventual meeting.
This will be your reunion at the Bridge where everywhere is happiness and rainbow colors.
