Would love to see pics (or a link to some pics) of Cash. Hope he's continuing to heal nicely!
Deb and Angel Lexie* Diagnosed at age 13. Tried radiation first; wish we had amputated upon diagnosis (even with lung mets). Joined Club Tripawd April 2014 & Lexie loved life on 3 legs! Advice: Start physical therapy as soon as your vet clears it, especially hydrotherapy if available :-) See Lexie pics here.
Hi, my big handsome lab/great dane Max had his front leg amputated a couple of months ago due to osteosacoma. He was walking the next day! We bought a harness and over the next few weeks jet helped him but now he walks and even runs on his own. He soon learnt how to go to toilet with 3 legs. It will be easier for Cash with a rear amputation - so thinking of you and sending you lots of hugs. The first two - 3 weeks were the hardest especially the first few days when he was on pain meds which made him pretty zonked out. We stayed with him 24/7 just to make sure he was safe and didn't trip or fall because the pain meds made him drowsy and not sure what he was doing (he tried to climb the stairs and so now we have put a baby gate on the stairs to stop him). We also have changed his diet to a completely organic grain free diet with cur cumin and extra virgin olive oil. Also cottage cheese for calcium and blueberries and raspberries. But everything organic to avoid chemicals. He is the picture of health. Eveeryone keeps remarking how well he looks. He has carboplatin every 3 weeks. One thing I wanted to mention is to try glucosamine plus chondritin for Cashs arthritis. Our other dog has had arthritis since she was 2 (genetic).. At first the vet put her on rymidil but when I looked into the side effects, we put her on glucosomine plus chondritin and weaned her off the rymidyl. That was 3 years ago and she is fine! without the glucosimine, her arthritis comes back. Lots of love to you and Cash.
Also wanted to mention that our vet advised us to use hot compress to reduce the seroma - so we used hot compress (obviously not too hot and inside a cloth bag) as often as possible and it did the trick x
