This week marks the TEN year ampuversary since my girl embraced life on three legs. She's a star and once she got rid of that useless broken leg, she got on with enjoying all life has to offer.
Now a days 20 min walking max a day due to arthritis - which has affected her ability to get around this last year.... but with pain meds she's still loving life, although at a more sedate pace.... unless there are rabbits or pigeons to chase, then you are left in the dust!
Here's a wee video we made (although I got the year wrong on it, it was 2006 we adopted her and the leg had to be removed!) a year or so after adopting her. She outlived the wee jack Russell in the video - and two other adopted dogs since then.
My wonderful Willow, who has taught be so much about how to live life.
OMG ... I am crying here at my office. What a beautiful story!!! Thank you for sharing Willow with us and letting us celebrate her 10 YEAR !!!!!! Anniversary!!! So amazing.
You can see the absolute love and trust in her eyes in every single photo... true dog bliss and living each day to the fullest.
Happy celebrations!!! SO much love!
Alison with Spirit Shelby in her heart and little Jasper too!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Happy 10 year ampuversary! That is just wonderful!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
Oh. My. Gosh.
How amazing! 10 years!!! Hoppy Ampuversary Willow! The picture of her in the rocking chair is just pure happiness! She's like, "hey, look at me, look what I can do now!"
Oh, to have such a wonderful life, Willow, you have gotten so lucky. To have little girls to love you, that is so great.
Ha, rabbits and pigeons are so much fun to chase, aren't they! Murphy loves to chase the squirrels & bunnies in our yard, too.
Keep on doing what you're doing!

"Tell us more about her daily life. What's her diet like? Her pain management for the arthritis? What keeps her comfortable? Engaged? Happy?"
She is raw fed, prey model diet. Loves her food!
pain management
is one 57g tablet of Previcox a day. She had been on a different NSAID, but it had upset her stomach. Since changing to this one stomach issues have gone and she has brightened up so much more, I think it controls her pain much better. We also give her two Yumove supplement tablets a day. She was on one a day previously, but we upped it this last year.
She has memory foam beds in each room, but loves nothing better than a blanket to wrap herself up in.... still leaps up onto the bed/couch at every opportunity, cheeky mare.
When we walk it's a dander along, letting her stop and sniff things for as long as she wants - taking things at her pace. At home she loves a kong stuffed with mince - we tend to serve them frozen to help them last longer as she's an expert now at flinging them bouncing across the room to knock all the meat out, lol. She loves squeaky toys. She used to dyestuff them all the time, but now a days she seems to love the legs off a toy that has squeakers in the feet. Willow just sits and squeaks away at them and then as a good roll on them. Playing fetch is just a gentle toss of a toy a few feet away for her to bring back to us; it was always a favourite game of hers, but slower and gentler these days of course.
And of course lots of snuggles, pets and cuddles!
Tha ks for sharing specifics that seem to be working very well for Willow!
I LOOOOOOOVE hearing about all her antics, especially figuring out a way to get the goodies out of her King!! Very smart gal!! And walking with her and learning how to "stop and smell the roses" on Willow's terms...very sweet!

Wow, I love how you just pretty much let her do what she's always done and really live life on her terms. Beautiful!
Got any photos to share? We'd love to see them!
