So, today at work I met a lady who had lost her Bernese Mt. Dog last February. I asked her if he had any health problems, since most American Bernese end up getting sick. She said "well...it's an interesting story" and she went on to tell me the greatest little anecdote of hope I've heard. Apparently, when her dog was 2, he was diagnosed with bone cancer. Being so young, they knew the cancer is usually more aggressive and starting waiting for "the day" to come. They did not do chemo because his x-rays showed that it had spread. But...it's funny how things work out. One day, he just sort of, came out of his lethargy and started acting like a puppy again, not a dog that was sick. This went on for not a few months, not even a year or 2. This dog survived EIGHT more years with only tumor removal (they did not amputate). It died at age 10 (which is already ancient for a Bernese) because the cancer took over his lungs. This was an amazing story, and I wanted to share it with everyone here. I wish this for all your little guys and girlies 🙂

Amazing indeed. Goes to prove that miracles can happen, and there is always hope. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great story. Right now we can use such great stories. When Guide Dogs for the Blind update their web with the latest newsletter, I will be posting the story of Fallbrook who had extreme problems with the chemotherapy but at the urging of the vets they continued the full protocol. Fallbrook was able to celebrate his 13th birthday and a fifth year of remission in August.
Thanks again, and keep those inspawrational stories comming,
