CONGRADULATIONS BRUCE! THAT IS AMAZING!😀🎈🎈🎈

My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019.  With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer.  I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud!  He will live forever in my Heart!

Wow, 3 years!!! Thanks for letting us know as it gives hope to others. My cat is now 5 years cancer-free after her amputation. Every day is a bonus. Like Bruce, she is slowing down a bit but her stubbornness and determination is increasing.

Hey Bruce, enjoy your 3-year ampuversary celebration with family and 2, 3 or 4-legged friends. You are a good model for Riot to follow.

Scratches for Bruce!

Can you remind us, what treatment did you pursue for him, if any?

Hi Jerry - Brice had 4 rounds of carboplatin chemotherapy, his first one was 3 weeks following his surgery, he was initially supposed to go every 3 weeks, but was usually closer to 4 weeks and his dosage was lowered slightly because his white cell count was really low every time. After that we did 6 months of cyclophosphamide (one pill daily), we stopped after 6 months because I was worried about him possibly developing kidney problems (he didn’t but we were told that the drug manufacturer claimed 50% of patients did at 1 year, and our vet said that his experience put that number at 90-95%) so we decided to quit while we were ahead. Bruce hasn’t had any x- rays since June of 2017, and until we feel there is a need we won’t do any. The only time he sees the vet now is for a yearly exam and to get heartworm and tick preventions.

Thank you for the info. Sounds like Riot's course. We had to move to four weeks our last round, with a lower dose. Hopefully his wbc is higher than last round. I hate having to come back a week later. I'll ask about that other med once we're closer to finishing the infusions.

Hi Riots mom, your pup is gorgeous!!! One thing I had heard was that a low white count was a good sign that the chemo was doing its job, I don’t know whether there is any truth to that or not, but hopefully it’s a good sign. The cancer clinic we went to was an hour and a half drive, so we started going to our local vet for bloodwork ahead of the chemo (a day before our appt) and if the white count was too low he’d be rescheduled to go to the cancer clinic 7-10 days later and have another test there before his chemo was administered.
