1 YEAR AND 6 MONTHS POST AMPUVERSARY AND STILL GOING STRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off….it has been way to long since I have shared Jack's progress with all of you. Please forgive me. I recently began an MBA program and between that and everything else I have been swamped up to my ears. I have also been so nervous about celebrating Jack's success because I have this sneaking gut feeling of worry in the pit of my stomach. BUT….. yesterday he went to see his oncologist and his scans came back clean and blood counts came back normal. She now wants to see him every 6 months as opposed to every 3 months.

I am so so proud and feel so lucky to still have my big guy around. He still loves being a dog, loves chasing his brother and sister, loves guarding the front yard, loves being a dog!!! I just wanted to post this to throw out hope to all of you having to go through this. It has been such a process (an expensive process) but I would have not changed one thing. I am so grateful he is still around and will continue to support him however he needs.

It is very funny because all of Jack's meds are given to him using wet food (in the late afternoons). Around 3:30 I start getting looks and protests from him about his snack 🙂 If any of you out there have ever had a Rhodesian you know how stubborn they are. It's amazing but that is one of the reasons I love him so much.

I hope this finds everyone so well!!! Shout out to all of Jack's supporters out there as we are celebrating down here in Texas!!!!

Lots of Love

Happy Great Report Card to Jack! Many, many happy returns of the day to you! You can all breathe big sighs of relief now, since Jack doesn't need to go so often.

You know dogs tell time, right? In addition to my mutt tripawd, I have a bulldog (you wanna talk stubborn?) and they both tell time. They get chicken broth on their food, and they tell me when it's time to get going. If I happen to take the jug of broth out of the fridge to find something back in there, oh the ruckus that causes! "You don't touch the damn broth unless you're gonna give it to us!"

Isn' t that the truth!!! He definitely knows when I fiddle with his chemo medicaiton in the fridge that it is time.... His teeth chatter from excitement. It is hillarious. Chicken broth is a good idea. I never thought of that. I am trying to watch his weight given his size. I don't need his hips going out on me. I can only imagine what you deal with having a bulldog!!

YAAAAAHOOOOOO!

Erin, we so needed this kind of news today, thank you for sharing your amazing guy's milestone. It's hard to believe that way back in October 2009 you joined us, time sure flies. Wow.

HOPE....that's what sharing these milestones is all about. Thank you!

Tell us again, what kind of chemo drugs is he taking?

One more thing...we'll be in Texas next month and hope to arrange some kind of pawty. We hope you can make it! Whereabouts are you again?

Hi Jerry!

Jack's meds are as follows:

Doxycycline 100mg (once daily)

Deracoxib 75 mg (but Jack only gets half a tablet per day)

Immuno Support Vitabmins (2 capsules daily)

Chemo: Chlorambucil 2mg tablets (once daily)

Jack has been seeing Dr. Carreras at Gulf Coast Animal Clinc. She is a full-time oncologist and he only sees her now. I will say that Jack's activity is minimal during the day. He enjoys being very lazy and I try not to wear him out to much when we do play. I actually think tihs has helped him in the long run. He definitely plays quite a bit with his siblings though 🙂

I am in Houston (innerlooper). Let me know about the visit to Texas! Thanks so much for all the support.

Chloe became a rear amp tripawd on 7-29-10. Another tumor was removed on front leg 2-20-14. Found 3rd tumor on neck 2-2015, but she's still kicking cancer's butt at age 14. Chloe's blog

Congrats Jack! So nice to hear good news on here.

Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Congrats!!!! That is definitely something HUGE to celebrate...

Is this metronomic chemo? Champ is on different meds but takes chemo pills daily as well. How long has Jack been on the chemo pills? We are looking at 5 months and continuing next month for another 6 (total would be a year) and I'm not sure how long dogs can stay on this regimen.

Thanks and again, Congrats

WooHoo!  Great going, Jack.  I can remember the first time we were scheduled for 6 months re-check.  It scared me to death, but it all turned out well.

Good luck on the MBA, and many many more ampuversaries for Jack.
