Dakota lost a front leg at 9 to a soft tissue sarcoma. Our vet was hesitant to mention amputation so I did. He seemed relieved I said it first. Dakota was not a confident patient, but with lots of encouragement he found he was capable.
A favorite memory after surgery was being outside in the snow and Dakota hopping up, grinning and wagging. The only way out was his dog door, so he accomplished that on his own and was so proud. That was about a week after surgery.
Dakota is gone but he did not die from the cancer that took his leg. He conquered that in true tripawd warrior fashion.
I am also going to add too many pictures, but I won't apologize for it. I loved him too much not to share him.
From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
Thanks for Sharing Dakota Awesome Feburary Furball.
