Welcome home Callie! Best wishes for a speedy recovery, and be prepared for the recovery roller coaster ride. Please keep us posted.

Glad to hear you are doing swimmingly so far Callie! But don't overdo it, or tell your parents not to be surprised if you aren't doing quite as well in another day or two. Either way, try not to worry too much in the next week or two. It sounds like you are on your way to a good recovery and happy days!
As for human children in the family, you might find some useful info in the archives. I don't know if anyone has used 'kids' as a tag - probably not. I think Romeo had a human sister who had great insights into his 3-legged-ness. She was older than 2, but it could be helpful. They seem to be pretty accepting - as Jerry said, we humans still leg behind.

Glad to hear she is doing well!
For the kids part, I have 2 little kids, and I wondered about that myself. It's too late for you to do this since she's already home, but before the amputation we started pulling up youtube videos of tripawd dogs so that they got used to seeing 3-legged dogs a couple times. When we brought Chili Dawg home, my 2 year old was scared of him the first night, but my 4 year old immediately sat down and started to pet him. The next day my 2 year old imitated everything her brother did even giving Chili a kiss on the nose when we were leaving. From that day on she was fine with him. My 4 year old has been terrific with him. During the first 2 weeks, he would have me pull up more you-tube videos of tripawd dogs so that he could see that Chili would be able to run again- he needed reassurance of that. Now he likes to tell everyone that we have the coolest dog because he has 3 legs and those dogs are cooler than regular dogs that have 4 legs (we also have a 4 legged monkey butt extraordinaire dog as well).

Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Sending super speedy healing thoughts your way!

She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
