Ruthie got a bath and pawdicure on Wednesday in anticipation of her big vet visit on Thursday. She's been feeling so good and had gotten into the horse manure (a good thing) so I thought she needed cleaning up. Besides, she was meeting Magic on Friday! She was on Temadar for 5 days which I really think helped. Two of the chest mets are less dense! One seems possibly more dense so she is now on Palladia (toceranib phosphate) 2 pills every other day for a month. It's FDA approved but still in trials, but as Dr. Dhaliwal says, we have to "think outside the box" at this point. Her appetite is better and she is happy again. A month ago I was in tears daily watching her so despondent. I fired up the BBQ this afternoon and darn is she wasn't blasting up the deck stairs before the steak was even out of the fridge! My heart swells seeing her feeling so good. She's now past 8 months since her amputation! I take every day as a gift. Thanks Diane for posting the picture of our two pups!
OH WOW! That's wonderful news indeed! I like vets that think outside the box!
I remember from your blog how upset you were. I was worried for you. (Comet told me)
Pawdicure – maybe mine will enjoy it if I rename it! I have to admit, I would love to be able to paint Comet's nails PINK. But she won't let me – yes, I've tried. She'd be so cute and I know she'd feel really pretty!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Wonderful, wonderful update! So very happy to hear Ruthie is doing so well. Sounds like you have a great vet working for you.
I'm just curious - because I have limited knowledge- do they ever do a second round of temadar?
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.

I don't know if they do second rounds of temodar. She has handled all the chemo and the temodar so well, no side affects at all so that wouldn't be a deterent. But since it did some good, I guess it's time to attack that 3d lung met that didn't respond to the temodar.
Ruthie did not get her nails painted. That would be way too much! I'm just lucky to get them trimmed!
I think they DO if it works....at least I think that is the discussion I had with Dr. Moeller.....that if it looked like it was successful another round would be done.....But Dr. Daliwald (how DO you spell his name) would prob. be consulted. I'm thinking he has a different plan in mind for Ruthie...I'm just so thrilled it worked for her.
Great news indeed! Glad to hear Ruthie is doing so well, thanks for the update!

Yeay Ruthie! Thanks for the update. We've had lots of discussions about Palladia here, and now with Ruthie and Magic on Temador, that will really help provide others with anectodes about how it's working. Thanks for the great update, and give your pretty girl a big ol smooch from us (provided that there's no horse manure on her breath, of course! 😉

Dr. Dhaliwal? Just curious - I'm not sure where Sebastopol is in California, but we have a Dr. Dhaliwal here in Orange County at the VCA Allcare hospital that treated Max. As far as I know, he works out of our area most of the time. That's not a common name, and I'm wondering if we're talking about the same person.
You know that name sounded familiar to us too! Thanks for asking, we'd like to know too.

It's good to hear your news. Everyone's support towards everyone else is so nice to read about!
Daisy, 12 years young, had left forelimb amp on 5/19/2010 due to osteosarcoma. She left her body behind and joined the other spirit tripawds on 7/16/2010.
So grateful for each day with her!
