The anesthesia might just be making him a little funky.  It's the same anesthesia that they use for most surgeries would be my guess on this one.  Only because I have assisted with many eye surgeries and you never know what you're going to get in to.

You might want to give him a day or 2 and try it again.  As long as he has no contact with that one he will be ok. Just remember,  with face surgeries they won't just scratch with their paws, they will also try rubbing their face on doorways,  walls,  branches... you get my drift.  He might just be better off with a hard cone that protects him from rubbing up on to something. Just a thought.

Hugs,

Jackie and Huck❤

The soft cone has pretty stiff support around it. He just doesn't like change. At all. He put his ears back and head forward right into the plastic cone. I'll keep it in case my other dog or future dogs need it. He's a rubber, so I know it just has to stay on.

We all do what we can. Some things just aren't a win. Thank you. I bet he'll feel a lot better once the meds wear off.

Yes, totally! Nice thing is he might have been under for a shorter time which will help the anesthesia get out of his system quicker❤

I know life has probably been a blur for you with all these things going on but you're doing a phenomenal job! 💖💖💖

Handsome boy, you did so well ❤ big hugs! Soon the cone will be gone and you will be back to killing squeaky toys!

My sweet soulmate Roane was diagnosed with osteo in June of 2019. Had a rear leg amp on July 2nd & crossed the rainbow bridge to be with her sister Gypsy on the first day of Autumn Sept 23 2019.

Thank you all. He did well through the night. He's not thrilled with the cone, but that's too bad right now. He ate a couple small treats this morning, which is way faster than after he gets chemo. He refuses to go up the two steps back inside with the cone on, so I have to pop it off for a second. That's worrisome, but he doesn't fight it going back on. I'm so grateful to my parents. He's my dog, but he's been at their house since the amputation. They're the only reason this has been possible. I work on the sound floor, so he wouldn't even be able to come with me.

I can see why he doesn't like the cone when going up stairs. Many dogs have poor depth perception, so gauging the distance and steepness of stairs would be like walking blindfolded to him. Glad to hear he's eaten something and doing well.

Your parents are wonderful!

Yay for eating quickly Riot! And yes, your parents sound like wonderful people sp_hearticon2 I am so glad he doesn't give you a hard time popping that cone off for a moment, and you sound like you are fully capable of being the Alpha dog when you need to so it works well.

I am glad he had a good night sp_hearticon2

Yes, my parents have gone above and beyond. I've pretty much moved in for now as well.

I came back tonight, and Riot looked so much better than this morning.

Yep! He's smiling. He ate lunch for the first time since amputation today. We've only been able to get him to eat dinner until now. He generally only wants lunch once or twice a week, so it hasn't been too important.

Look at that wagging tail😀😀   Sooooo happy to hear how well Riot is doing!!  I bet that thing on his eye was really bugging him and, even with the cone he feels so much better.

And YAY for lunch!!!   Onward and upward!
