A belated welcome.  Amazing the impact plumbing has on the whole body!  Glad Poppy's passed (sorry) that stuff.

I think Karen suggested a paw wax earlier; I used that on an arthritic elderly GSD with a torn cruciate and it did help on the floors that the rugs didn't cover.

Bet wishes for a complete and speedy recovery; what a CUTIE!!

Awww! What a cutie! Glad you are all doing well and recovery is smooth sailing :)

As far as the carpets, I know exactly what you mean. Barret races around like crazy. I bought $10 bathroom rugs (with the rubber backing) in neutral colors and put them at the tops and bottoms of all my stairs because I didn't want him to accidentally fall.

Aside from tearing up your hard floors and getting carpeting, using booties or putting a ton a yoga mats around your house, it might be best to cover the "high risk areas" for now (don't want to risk another fall down the stairs - right?) and wait to see what areas Poppy seems to be slipping around and add rugs only as you need them.

Honestly, I actually removed some of the rugs I initially put down because my silly boy wasn't even using them (and I hate vacuuming them). If you read the "3 legs and a spare " book and work on strengthening Poppy's core muscles, her balance will be even better on unsteady surfaces.

Lots of luck, Heather

Barret was diagnosed with Hemangiopericytoma May 16, 2013. Front left leg/scapula/pectoral muscle was amputated on June 11, 2013 and we've never looked back. Follow our story on http://barret.t.....pawds.com/ and read my column on That Pet Blog

Yay Poppy! We knew you could do it!

Maggie I think you'd be surprised at how much comfort dogs find from a path of rugs in the house. Once they start ice skating on slippery floors, they instinctively learn where to step so they're not sliding all over the place. Too many spills can really injure a dog's confidence and they like the comfort of knowing they have 'safe spots.'

That's great news all around for you guys, we're so happy to hear it.

So glad to hear Poppy is recovering so well. The pictures are adorable and she should absolutely be spoiled rotten just due to pure cuteness!!

Like Jerry said, just a few rugs where footing is needed most works fine. I think someone on here had some grips that just stuck on the pads that worked great (if they make them small enough!).

Keep us updated.

She is absolutely adorable. Glad to hear her recoup is going well, she's a lucky girl. Not to get too much of. Good thing but the carpets or runners really make a difference. You'll see she will travel on them, they figure out what makes them feel more secure. Keep up the good work.

As others jave said, jist take Maggie's lead, dn't let her overdo.   I think I recently read aout smeone purchasing yoga mats for "non-skid_ altermatives.

Thank you for your very caring words by the way. It's refreshing though to follow a journey of a tripawd without a terminal..or potentially terminal crapy disease.   Thank you for brighteningour day!   look forward to more ictures!  Cuteness overload!!
