My dog Coach had to have his back left leg removed 2 weeks ago and had the stiches removed Friday. On Saturday I noticed what looked like a boil almost. It popped and now it is draining alot. There is no smell, the site where it popped is squishy, and the liquid is a clearish red (just like what comes out if you pop a regular boil). I put a bandage over the site, 2 large gaugse pads with medical type holding them on. I keep having to change them because of how much is draining. I'm worried but my vet does not work over the weekend. I have to hold out until Monday. Could this be a seroma ? What should I do until I can call my vet?

It sounds like a seroma .  If the dog is eating and not lethargic then it can wait until Monday.  You can put a tshirt on until then.

Coach is doing great! The drainage has slowed down alot, and I was able to make him a butty that holds surgical dressing pads that are ment to help with drainage. The butty covers his stump and ties around him (he is still able to use the bathroom with it on). It is keeping the drainage site clean and is allowing it to keep draining. He is eating, playing and getting into trouble lol. Thank you so much for the support and I will keep posting on how Coach is doing.

I'm very happy he's getting into trouble again lol laughing. He's my big boy. And even more good news, Coach is actually starting to lay on the side with his stub now (his back left leg had to be removed). At first he would only lay on his right side. It makes me so happy to see him getting more adjusted and that there is no pain. big-grin

My pug Maggie was also a left rear amp.  It took her longer than Coach, but she eventually was laying on her amp side.  And it became her preferred side to sit on.  She actually used a sit and spin move as a pivot to change directions!

Why did Coach have an amputation?

Tripawdcoach - I moved your last post, the incredible story of  Coach, to the Share Your Story Forum.  It said so much about you and Coach, I didn't want anyone to miss it.

So far so good on the seroma . It is still draining but not as much and the fluid has become a little bit more clear. There is still no smell and the site is getting smaller. I talked to my vet yesterday and he told me everything should be fine and to just keep an eye on it, I'm happy I dont have to bring him in.
