Greetings all. I am so glad to have found this community. My four year old girl (Husky/GSD mix) and I will begin this journey this week. Sasha has suffered from chronic osteomyelitis from a Valley Fever infection contracted as a pup. Her front right leg will be amputated due to complete joint dislocation. I am nervous but glad that she will be free from pain and have a better quality of life moving forward. Thanks for all the great resources that will help us through the transition. Ann and Sasha

I'm so sorry the Valley Fever led to this! It sounds painful, I had no idea it could dislocate a joint. Wow.
Yes getting rid of a non-functional leg can improve quality of life. Is she at all a candidate for a prosthetic? You might want to look into prosthetics before surgery, just in case it's an option for you guys. If not, no worries, she can still do great on 3.
Our Tripawds Foundation will reimburse for the first consultation with a physical therapist! Your first rehab visit is on us, and we really encourage folks to go, so they can learn what their dog's unique capabilities and limitations are, especially as they age.
