Hi again, Toby has had his first swim as a tripawd. He didn't even need to work out how to swim with 3 legs, he just got in the water and took off. He is so, so happy now.

Wow! What can anyone say, but WOW! My Comet has never gotten around that well! I am really regretting not getting that deformed leg removed after seeing Toby's video.
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Wow. I love that turbine of a tail. It could power just about anything. People who don't know him must think he is using his nose as another leg when he scoops up the snow like that (in earlier video).
Love the videos! No way are we going to get sick of Toby! What an impressive tripawd.

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

I love the videos of Toby... especially when he was swimming! My Jake loved to swim... and that was the best therapy for him after his amputation surgery!!! Keep posting!!!

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear your dog is suddenly a tripawd, but we all speak from experience when we say it's not the end of the world. And since Toby's condition isn't cancer-related, you're even better off! You'll be surprised to see how well Toby adapts – his missing leg won't matter nearly as much as you think. When our dog Max lost his, the only change in his behavior was that he quickly learned to become a complete mooch once he realized that everyone wants to pet a three-legged dog. He loved to put on the pathetic act and work the crowd for all they were worth.
But there are a couple of things to do that might make your dog's life easier. Always remember that Toby doesn't really know he's only got three legs, and he'll still try doing everything he did before. Max was a very active dog, and he was always giving my wife and I heart failure by jumping when he shouldn't have and putting undue stress on his remaining front leg. Jumping up is no big deal, but down is now a different story – no need to jolt his remaining front leg any more than necessary. If he sleeps on your bed with you like Max always did with us, consider buying or building him a sturdy ramp to help him up and down. And I'll second what someone else mentioned earlier – that Ruffwear harness is an absolute must! It makes it incredibly easy for you to help Toby in and out of the car. Just grab the handle on his back and turn what would be a leg-jarring impact into a gentle set-down. You can buy the harness on this website – just follow the link below:

And just curious – what condition is it that you and the vet are concerned about that might weaken the bone in his other leg?
