I have a three legged border collie, Millie.
I wasn't looking for a collie, or a 3 legged dog, but she kind of chose me!
People often don't notice she has had front right leg amputated, especially when she is racing around on the beach or on the field.
Millie was hit by a car and then abandoned in a cardboard box outside the local vet. They did the surgery as she was young and obviously had a lovely nature. No one claimed her, so she went to the rescue centre. I couldn't resist her beautiful face and beseeching eyes.
I keep her on the slightly skinny side, and encourage her to swim. I don't let her run herself into the ground playing ball (she would keep going forever!) and give her lots of massage.
We recently started agility, and she adores it. We keep the jumps low, and have build up her confidence slowly. The vet agrees that her muscle tone, balance and coordination are great. And most importantly, she is a happy and healthy dog.
Millie loves people and is very huggable. Her missing limb makes it much easier for her to wrap herself round you and give huge hugs. She sleeps in the most inelegant position imaginable, and is just adorable.
I would always consider a three legged dog in the future!

Nikki and Millie, welcome. I love the pics you sent, she is such a seriously playful, cute pup! It's hard to believe anyone could abandon such a wonderful dog.  You've obviously found your 'heart dog', what a great relationship!

Thanks for joining us here, we can't wait to hear all about your Tripawd adventures. Consider starting a Tripawds blog so we can follow along!

I think a wet, dirty border collie is a happy border collie!

Welcome to Tripawds- what a beautiful face!

Welcome to you and Millie. She is SO cute!

People used to say the same to us - that they didn't notice she had 3 legs until she stopped running. She loved to run on the beach!

I can see why you couldn't resist her!

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

OMG she is seriously gorgeous and those ear's are amazing :)

It's so lovely to see how she obviously pays no attention to having 3 legs, and is just LOVING life in general !!

Please keep posting her pictures as I have this stupid smile written all over my face, she reminds me of our Milly who even though she has 4 legs she's a total survivor any way, she also has the ability to make you smile just be one look :)

take care and I'll tty soon
