Michelle, I hope today you are feeling a little bit better. I know that it is such a big blow, but take care of yourself too. I ended up getting sick 2 times because I was not sleeping. Make sure to ask your vet about Tussigon if Sassy starts coughing a lot. When Cadence first started coughing she only did it for 2 days and then stopped. Three weeks later she started in again. That's when we asked the vet for some medication. He gave us Tussigon 5mg. We gave it to Cadence and 2 times a day. The medication did wonders. Her coughing pretty much stopped all together. The vets usually prescribe it for dogs that have whooping cough. After Cadence was on the medication, she got sleep and so did we. See what your vet thinks if Sassy continues to cough.
Please know that I am thinking about you and Sassy. I am here for you if you need me. Give Sassy a big hug for me.

She hasn't coughed at all today. I will keep that in mind Michele. Thank you.
We went on several rides and she enjoyed herself. Just hard but I am doing better about it.

Michelle,
I am so sorry to hear about this. I don't have much to add to what the others have said so eloquently, but I just want you to know that Bailey and I are sending you and Sassy lots of positive thoughts, love and support! Just hug and love on Sassy as much as you can for as long as you can!

Sassy has not had anymore coughing. We adjusted the prednisone that she is on. We are checking prices of metronomics & also the padillia. So far so good but I want to get something started soon. The sooner the better.

Michelle,
I'm late posting but I have been thinking about you guys. You are doing a great job being strong and a good advocate for Sassy. The burden is always on us as parents- our pups could care less as long as dinner is on time. There is nothing easy about any of this- except loving our pups.

Ok everyone. Here is the update. After crying most of the weekend and totally spoiling Sassy which I will continue to do. We got the call for the next step if we want to go there. Which they (the oncologist & vet) suggested Palladila and we finally got the cost through Pfizer. For a dog Sassy's size 125 pounds it was going to be $1100 just for the drug. Because of the side affects the vet would want to monitor (blood pressure, blood work etc ) that is another $300.00 which just isn't in the budget.
The next step I talked about before we even got the cost was Jerry's Metronomic protocol. Which I am planning on doing. The cost for the 2 drugs total was 91.32. I can't remember the exact break down waiting for the confirmation email so I can break it down. But that is a whole lot more manageable.
We are going to continue to fight until she says she can't. Also was informed to stop the prednisone because she can not be on it while doing this treatment. She has not coughed at all this past weekend and has not really had any problems breathing.
Thanks for all the support
Michelle & Sassy

It's a great plan, Michelle and Sassy! I get a lot of pleasure giving Jackson his metronomics every AM, knowing we're doing 1 more thing every day to fight this thing. Keep us posted when the Rx arrives! I'm sure she's gonna do great on them. BTW, is Sassy going to have regularly scheduled chest xrays to go long with this? Oh, and before we started J's metronomics , they took a urine sample to screen for blood. This way, as I understand it, they have a baseline measurement in case he ever develops symptoms. Then, I think like every 4-6 weeks initially, he'll continue to have his urine monitored. Any talk of that with Sassy's vets?
Fight on, dear Sassy! Fight on Winter Warrior!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Did not but she does want to do another blood draw before we start the drugs. So will have to make an appointment this weekend before starting the drugs. She did mention that was a possiblity of UTIs. We just did lung x-rays so I am sure we will do them again but we didn't discuss how often yet.
thanks Katy. I will ask those questions.

Yay for Sassy! I'm betting she'll handle the metronomics very well. Just make sure she drinks plenty of water throughout the day and see if she'll potty more frequently, all to help prevent the UTI's. Like Katy said, it makes me feel like I'm doing something on a daily basis to fight the beast. Libby is having blood work done after her first month on the metronomics . March on Winter Warrior!
Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13. Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14. She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self. Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14
I just was checking in to see if you had an update on Sassy and am happy to see she is holding her own and that you will be going the metronomic route which she will probably handle well. palladia is really expensive and cost prohibitive for most but if you are near a veterinary medical teaching hospital, maybe they have clinical trials and generally the cost for the chemo is covered. I hope you and Sassy continue to have many happy times.

I think this is a great idea. You may want to talk to your vet about avoiding urinary tract infections, which can happen with girldogs who are on the cytoxan. It happens when the bladder isn't emptied enough after taking it. Now that I think about it though, it shouldn't be a problem for he, since you work at home and can let her out to urinate throughout the day, but still a good idea to ask about it.
I'm so glad to hear you have a plan to fight those nasty lung mets! Sassy's gonna kick their butts!

We did discuss that. I should be able to get her out a few times each day. Not a problem Katy also suggested MSM to help protect the bladder.

I received the x-rays through emails I did actually only ask for pictures that were going to be posted on the facebook story that they did about Sassy but they sent the xrays instead. So I was showing some people in the chat last night. Jerry, DakotaDawg, krun, rica55. They suggested I post them in here. So I kinda circled the ones that we could see the right side there is one big one. I have the ones that I did not circle anything on so if someone would like to view those please pm me.
Here goes I will post the descriptions by the pictures
The 1st picture is the right side, the 2nd is the left & the 3rd is the thorax. On the 3rd one I did not circle the mets but you can see the little circles those are the met.
