I brought back adog from a clinic in Cancun. She had a wire tied around her leg and I am not sure for how long. Her foot was swollen three times it's normal size. She is going to see the vet today and I will see what happens there. It's been ten days since we removed the wire around her leg and she is not walking on it yet. She will put weight on it though. I pinched her toes and she does react so I am guessing she has some feeling in her foot. I guess I want to know how long I should wait to see if her foot can be left on or amputated. Or if anybody knows of some inexpensive therapy I could use to help rehabilitate the leg.

Bless you for saving this pup, and thank you for joining. Your future posts will not require moderation.

How long to wait depends on how hard your willing to work to "save the leg" – in most cases, if no permanent nerve damage is present dogs can regain most of the use of damaged limbs. Please consult a canine rehab specialist. Normally one visit or two will result in specific exercises tailored to your dog's needs that you can do at home.

Watch our video interviews with Cal Animal Rehab for more information or contact the Canine Rehab Institute to find a rehab vet near you.

Bless you is an understatement!

I hope this works out and the leg can be saved.  Please keep us updated, okay?!
