I'm pleased to announce Jackson completed 4 rounds of carbo IV chemo today! He has put on about 2lbs of extra weight - the only gain seen since this whole ordeal began (and, the only gain for years!). I guess we'll cut back a little on mealtimes. Besides that, his WBCs were strong, bloodwork great, and everything else stellar! They took more urine to send off to screen for blood. They like to monitor urine b/c he's on metronomic therapy. I got his clear chest xrays and will upload here them soon. I asked about lymph node involvement: at this point I think we all know that OSA likes to spread to the lungs rather than travel within the lymph system, so taking a portion of the amputated lymph node is not a common practice. If his amputated lymph node were impacted, she's not be worried about that since it's now gone! I asked, well, if the amputated lymph node were impacted, wouldn't that make it easier for it to impact the other lymph nodes? The answer: no. So, there you have it. It's not common to sample the lymph node(s) with OSA b/c it rarely goes there. If it were in the amputated node...well, now it's gone!
Because Jackson is doing SO WELL, they'd like to give him a 5th carbo. To be honest, I was really excited about graduating from chemo camp today (I was taking pics to chronicle the monumental day, even!). I was also excited about not spending so much money. The logic is that b/c Jackson handles it well, is doing well, and there's no reason to think 4 is better or worse than 5 treatments, a 5th won't hurt. I'll talk it over with hubby...
I had to confirm they are indeed giving him chemo, since there are NO side effects. Yes, Jackson is indeed getting chemo and he's getting the standard dose at that. Well, there you go! He's a tough guy. LOVE HIM!
Cheers!
One pic of him riding in the backseat on his hammock.
The other pic waiting to be seen. Sportin' his bandana! Because their floors are slippery, we bring his camping with us. There were other mobility challenged pets there and J's pad was quite a hit! I recommend you do the same, but you could also do with a yoga mat!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
yay way to go Jackson! I don't really know much about 4 rounds compared to 5, but I am sure others have experiences they can share!
He's such a good boy and handled this whole thing with such ease!! We love you Jackson and so happy to be on thsi journey with you!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah but you'd think they'd have less slippery floors or something with more traction to it. Someday my people are gonna invent something non-slip and easy to clean for vet floors and make a zillion dollars!

No! I emailed your onco. I hope my intent was clear to her: I wanted access to their publication or poster - the one that announced 4 is equal to 6 treatments, or whatever it was. I'll call them on Monday or Tuesday, I guess.
