Tripawd Daisy received good news yesterday.  The pathology report on her leg came back.  It is not cancer!  The report said the "lytic lesion observed on radiograph is inflammatory, not neoplastic".  She still would have lost her leg as the destruction to her elbow joint due to arthritis was so severe, with destruction to the bone.  I am so glad that I ended up choosing amputation for her.  My first thought upon the cancer diagnoses was euthanasia as I didn't think I wanted to put her through that.  Everyone's stories here helped me realize life on three legs can be just as good so thankfully I changed my mind.

Everyone has been so supportive to Daisy and me.  I keep alternating between wanting to celebrate and sadness for all the beautiful dogs whose news has not always been so great.  My only way to describe how I feel is it is sorta like having survivors guilt.

Daisy's recovery from her amputation continues to go pretty smoothly. It has now been 1 week since her surgery.

Best to all.

Hooray! We love good news around here!! And "not cancer" is pretty much the best news there is!

Treats all around to celebrate,
Jackie, Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Marla, that's wonderful news! And the survivor's guilt thing? I know that one. Dakota had cancer, but it was not OSA and the chance of metastasis is very low so I assume he will live his normal lifespan with no cancer-related issues. That has made me feel at times like sharing his monthly ampuversaries would be wrong, celebrating when others are mourning. I've been told, though, that it's important for everyone here to be able to celebrate victories. So  I share.

I have forgotten how old Daisy is, but I hope she has many, many years of tripawdhood ahead of her. Maybe it's time to get out the sparkly tiara so she can join the ranks of TWP (tripawd warrior princess). The site has recently been taken by storm with them. It's like a convention! And Daisy obviously belongs. We'll celebrate with you this morning. I'll find something special for the pack and we'll toast Daisy with the morning caffeine!

Shari

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.

Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/

This is about the best news that there could possibly be and we are so thrilled for you and Daisy, Marla!  I think that many of us really, really needed something to celebrate and help us through some sad times.  So, forget that "survivor's guilt" feeling!!  For me, at least, learning that one of our tripawds family is not going to have to deal with that awful disease is a Christmas gift that we're so happy you're sharing with us.

- Karen and Spirit Sylvie

Sweet Silly Sylvie, the Old English Sheepdog

Diagnosed with osteosarcoma 11/04/2010 at almost 7 years of age * Left hind leg amputated 11/09/2010 * Chemo on 12/10, 12/17, 01/10, 01/31

Sweet Sylvie's earthly journey ended on Nov. 3, 2011, one day short of a year since her diagnosis and 6 days short of her one-year ampuversary.  Her family celebrates her life as a sheepdog – ever the puppy, ever silly, ever sweet – and are grateful for our 7 years together.

Gosh - that is amazing news. I am really happy for you!! I don't think I have heard things turn out that way since joining tripawds in July 2009. But it is great. Forget survivor's guilt. As someone with a dog who did not survive or live particularly long following amputation, I don't wish anyone to go through this. The fewer dogs with cancer, the better! But if we have to go through it, our friends on this site make the journey far more meaningful and help us enjoy our pups while they are with us.

I bet you are going to have one terrific holiday!

That is wonderful news!! Such a weight off your shoulders I'm sure. Here's to Miss Daisy's speedy recovery and long, happy "tripawd" life!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

If you hang around here very long you will see that we are family.  We rejoice and celebrate the good news, we mourn and support each other when the news is not good.

Yea for Daisy!!!  And more importantly for the pugs- any celebration means TREATS!!
