Gosh, Jake sure took a rough road to recovery! What a trooper to get through all that.
Being a therapy dog sounds like just the right job for Jake. We have a local tripawd friend that does VA hospital visits and reading with kids. Her name is Shelby and she is a little golden who is a star everywhere she goes. Her parents say that she really brings comfort and inspiration to those she visits.
Good luck with the test!
Karen and the pugapalooza
Wow - that's impressive about the infection! What a fighter! I'm sure he'll make an amazing therapy dog! Let us know how his test goes!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Way to go Jake! You are a trooper! Glad to hear you are doing so well!
Spirit Chili Dawg
Diagnosed with OSA: 5/2/2011 Ampuversary: 5/11/2011 OSA returned in hip: 8/26/2011
Chili Dawg crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 8/30/2011 & is now pain free. He was my heart dog, and I miss him every day.
Oh wow. That's awesome. He will be an amazing inspiration as a therapy dog.
I'm so glad he could fight off the staph. Jake is a figher.
Karen and Spirit Magnum
Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. My beloved heart dog, see her memoirs from Rainbow Bridge ...... http://princess.....pawds.com/

Thank you all for the words of encouragement!
Jake passed his first therapy dog test with FLYING COLORS! His first patient: Double amputee! The gentleman didn't want us to leave. He was also a hit at Physical Therapy where no one could believe he was only 4 weeks post-amp. His final two tests are this week. He makes me so proud!
In the mean time this weekend we took Jake camping. He had a blast chasing lizards, rabbits, the kids, and playing in the water!
When we first arrived at the campground, a total stranger walked up to us and said "Jake. Wow it's Jake." When I asked if we knew him, he said he met Jake last weekend at an outing. That dog sure gets around.
Awwww CONGRATS! That is so cool. The therapy dog test isn't an easy one to pass, Jake's one special pup! I'm sure he will pass the rest of them without a problem. Keep us posted!

Pawesome news! That's so cool that his first test was with a fellow amputee. I'm sure Jake is a huge inspiration.
It was like that with Abby too... we'd be at the beach with her and I'd here people yelling "Abby!" It was pretty cool.

I love that Jake has that charisma. Congrats on the therapy dog certification.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

Second Therapy Dog Test: nailed it! Visited the Norther Nevada Regional Medical Center and patients in the rehab section. The tester gave Jake and "Outstanding!" rating. Next and final test will be on Thursday. The doctors and nurses were shocked that Jake was less than 5 weeks post-amp and doing so well. Thank you all here at tripawds for being such a great cheering section.
Pow! That's terrific Jake! Congratulations, we know the last one will be a breeze!
You are going to spread love and hoppiness to soooo many people who really need it. How cool that your people are volunteering to help you do such a cool thing. What a great pack you have.

Wow, Jake is really amazing, you must be so proud of him. I'm sure he is an inspiration to patients and residents who are going through their own adjustments -- seeing Jake probably gives them that extra push to get through.
Harley is an 8 year old Golden Retriever. Amp surgery for an infiltrative lipoma canceled due to two masses in chest. A rescue, he found his forever home on 3/18/07 and left for his eternal home on 1/09/13. His story and medical history are at http://myharley.....pawds.com/
That is so totally pawesome! Hooray for Jake!

Thanks to the amazing three-pawd cheering section! It is incredible when you see the look on people's faces when they realize Jake is missing a leg. Jake sat for a long time today with a deaf man in a wheel chair , the man kept mouthing silent words to Jake, when it was time to got he said out-loud "I love you Jake", and Jake licked his hand. Even the tester was wiping her eyes.
Jake's Thursday test has been re-scheduled for tomorrow! I will let you all know how it goes.
