Flare had her rear leg amputated on 9-17-08.   Flare injured her foot on our fences and our vet wanted to see how much he could save of her leg.  Well the injury happened on 7-27-09 so we were basically having to wrap her foot and clean it every day to every other day.  Poor Flare was such a trooper and much stronger than I would have been.  She would lay there and let us unwrap her foot, clean, and then rewrap her very sore foot.  We actually had a good system down.  I would tell her to lay down and let me fix her foot, she would lay down, hold up her injured foot.  I will not go into the horrible details.

We ended up with Flare having to loose most of her foot.  The problem was Flare would not really slow down and she kept bumping her foot and she started to hold it out to the side and she lost all muscle tone and was causing her foot to be very tender.

After speaking to 3 more vets who all agreed we opted for a mid femur amputation and it was the BEST thing for my girl.  The day after her amputation she was walking around and doing great!

I have attached a few photos of Flare and you can also see her on youtube.
