Hi everybody, I just wanted to share some good news for a change. I took Zoe back to Perdue for her first set of xrays and ultrasounds since chemo started. I was bracing myself for bad news, I'm not sure whether its due to what everyone else on here has been dealing with, or that everytime I have gotten my hopes up since the diagnosis I have gotten bad news. Zoe is about 10 years old, she had a huge mast cell tumor that pretty much ran thru her entire leg, prior to amputation they didn't realize how large it was and didn't think it had spread. Post amp. they found a large lymph node in her chest and then another rectal mass. They changed the grading of the tumor from 2 to 3. 3 is bad news so I guess you can understand why I may have been a little negative. Thursday when I took her back, the chemo had shrunk the lymph node to normal size, the rectal mass hadn't changed ( they think it may be scar tissue from when she was spayed) and no mets on liver, spleen etc. I know its not a cure but maybe it will keep it under control, so she can hop this earth for awhile.
I almost feel guilty for posting this because there are so many that are having hard times, but I guess what I wanted to say is keep the faith. I will always be overly concerned about every low energy day, but I guess the moral to the story is try to stay positive until you have proof that you shouldn't be.
Oh, please don't feel guilty for posting wonderful news! I love to read when one of our dogs has a celebration. Maybe Zoe will turn the tide. I am truely happy for you and Zoe.
Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.
Thanks for the reminder to stay pawsitive, and congratulations on Zoe's great checkup! No one should ever feel bad about posting news (good or bad) here. That's what these forums are for!

Leave it to Shanna & Trouble as well as Heather & Zeus to put it so very clearly and completely. Every positive report, ampuversary, and up beat moment that our TriPawd have is inspiration to all our community. Keep on suprising your familey Zoe. We all need it!!!

Yea Zoe! My pug's story is very close to yours- Maggie lost a leg to MCT. Pre-op tests showed no cancer spread so we thought the amputation solved the problem. Post Op tests showed that the mast cell cancer was probably in the lymph system. We did 6 months of chemo- they gave her 6 to 9 months WITH treatment. Well- we are now over 3 years past amputation and Maggie is still with me. The oncologist is surprised each time she sees Mag.
I am still worried about every low energy day, and the times she won't eat her food. Mostly it is that she is an almost 11 year old, sometimes obstinate pug who runs on her own agenda.
I love your last sentence- I don't know why Maggie is still around, but I treasure each day with her, as I have since her diagnosis.
Karen and Tri-pug Maggie.
And little sister Tani says Go Zoe!
