Tripawds Three Legged Dog & Cat Forum Archives

Well, it has definitely been an up hill battle for our little girl, but what a trooper she is!!!  She is almost 7 months post amputation and kicking cancer's ass, but not without a ton of challenges.  2 months ago, she had a double ear infection, nothing worse then a tripawd that is dizzy! We finally got that cleared up and a week later, she caught a claw on her good front leg and broke it down to the quick, it was so painful for her to walk on it for a couple of days.  Then last month, she began acting strange.  I convinced myself the cancer was back and we were going to loose our sweet little girl.  Luckily, we have an incredible team of vets that care so much for her.  She was very quickly diagnosed with diabetes and will be receiving 2 insulin shots a day.  Great girl that she is, she takes them like a champ!  Unfortunately, we have found that diabetes in dog can cause cataracts, but LUCKILY, our fantastic vet had just been to a talk on a new drug they are trying for the treatment of cataracts in dogs and one of the study groups is here in Tampa!  Belle went for her evaluation on Monday, and was accepted into the program.  She is the first tripawd in the program and quite a celebrity at the eye clinic, little miss personality!  Starting tomorrow, Belle will get 2 insulin shots a day and drops in her eyes 3 times a day.  Thank goodness I work from home and can do this!!!  She is such a great girl, always wagging her tail no matter what.  You can't keep a good girl down, but I am not sure how much more her (or I) can take.  I could not have gotten through the amputation without you guys, now I may need some support for our next challenge!
