It's been a while since I posted, oops. I need to get caught up.
Cooper is doing very well, except he got an infection where the lower incision for the drain tube went. He's back on Cephalexin and it's slowly clearing up. No swelling or abcess, it just started draining again and got a bit ooky.
I've been keeping it clean, doing warm compresses and I did put him on probiotics, because I figured that would not hurt with all the antibiotics he's been on. I'm sure the ortho surgery, the stress from the pain, the amp, cancer…has pretty much slammed his immune system. First time in his life he's ever taken a course of antibiotics, apart from the eye drops when he badly scratched a cornea.
We started on oral neoplasene on Saturday, after dithering for a while. I was concerned about his weight bloss and cachexia, but tweaked his diet, and his weight is stable. He is tolerating the neo just fine, eats everything, wants more, no nausea that I can tell.
Weekend before last I took him to agility practice with my little dog, and he had an absolutely marvellous time. I had a new camera and thought I was taking video…but duh! It never recorded. Guess I need to read the instructions and try again. He goes on one walk a day….six blocks has been our longest jaunt so far. He tires easily, but is very eager to get out and about. It's still cool enough to take him for ride-alongs if I am running errands and stuff.
We go for another set of xrays and ultrasound on March 24. He had one “possible” lung met visible on Feb 9 when he was diagnosed so we'll see….I am trying not to be way nervous.
I've added just a couple of photos to his webshots album.
Thanks for the update, great pics! And don't be nervous, I bet Cooper isn't!

Cooper - way to go- you look great. Fancy pawwork on the agility moves!
Keep up the good work- we're sending good thoughts for good news on March 24- we know everything will be just fine- tell your mom don't be nervous- ( those humas get so worried don't they)
Take care and keep having fun! That's what it's all about!

Heh…if I have time Friday, I will take them to open agility practice again and this time will do my best to actually take some video of Cooper doing some agility! I set everything at baby-dog levels and didn't let him do scary things like the dog walk, or anything that would either put a lot of stress on his front end, or where there would be a risk of a fall.
But agility - training and trialing - was such a big part of his life for about five years, I hate to just stop doing it. He just lights up when he sees the equipment, or gets to visit with agility friends. He's used to agility practice 1-2 times a week, trials a couple of weekends a month, club get-togethers, practicing in the back yard and plenty of exercise generally...and all the social interaction that came with it. I'm trying to keep his life as "normal" as possible.
Even though he tires so easily these days. 🙁 Doesn't take much to really wear him out.
I think it is wonderful you are allowing him to continue to do what he loves so much. They do tire easily, but their drive to do the things they have always done just doesn't die. He looks amazing!

Make that Happy Hoppity! 🙂 He'll build up strength to compensate. All in good time.
