Hi Gang,

I'm still managing to hang on to Tigger-Tot. Had a close call earlier in the week when a potential family wanted to meet her to consider an adoption, however, the young woman didn't seem as serious about adopting a special needs pup as she should have been, so Tigger's safe for the moment. Thought I was going to have to implement the Hide-a-Tigger Phone Tree for a couple of minutes.

Discovered from the rescue group that Tigger's about 11 months old now. I'm still her favoritest mommy in the whole wide world. The weather's finally starting to warm up and I'm starting to get notions of teaching Tigger to be a hiking dog. Kris has finally decided that if we still have her in November that she's a permanent fixture. Apparently "a year" is the magic number for "we get to keep the foster dog."

Had a close one last week. Not so much with Tigger possibly leaving, but her mentor Kodiak, the 13 year-old wolf. His arthritis really struck him hard last week and for 18 hours solid he was unable to get up, would cry, and never did use the bathroom. Mind you, despite his age, Kodiak takes regular 2-4 mile walks daily. An over-exuberant Tigger, while chasing Dakota (another one of our dogs), bumped the old man and knocked him on his *ss. Well, that was on a Friday night. Saturday day/night into Sunday he just laid around. Monday he went to the vet and was given Trammadol for the pain, but it didn't help (I am starting to think that crap is sugar pills). We honestly thought we were going to have to make that next really tough decision, so on Friday (the soonest the vet could reschedule him for a cortizone shot) Kodiak went to his vet, and Tigger went to her vet (she had a spay appointment).

Luckily, the shot worked (so far--knock on wood). Kodiak's back to his old self, teaching Tigger new tricks. Today she learned how to catch and kill a mouse (if you've ever seen a wolf catch a mouse on Animal Planet, its just like that!). Kodiak was so proud. The two of them are inseperable. He didn't even want to leave her Friday night after she had her surgery and had to sleep in her crate.

So, at least for the time being the two of them are safe. I've mentioned to Kris that they can't be seperated, and I think he's starting to buy it. Still crossing my fingers...

All dogs handle meds differently. Tramadol was Jerry’s pain killer of choice for a couple years. He was 75 lbs and would often get two pills, so ask your vet about the best dosage for big ol’ Kodiak.

Thanks for the update. Great to hear from you, and that you still have Tigger around.
